ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
To my way of thinking, this collection of fifteen songs is an album in the truest sense of the word. Each song is like a photograph. It's a time, or a place, or a feeling, that's been captured in music. The styles of the songs range from rock to jazz to blues and pop, which reflects the huge wellspring of influences from which they came...

I should probably mention that this was never intended to be a commercial release, it's actually a collection of "Demo's and Sketches" that I put together as an archive of places I'd lived or visited musically. Two of the songs (Whisper and London Bridge) I ended up re-recording on the subsequent CD "The Sun and the Moon"...the fidelity was better, and I was able to flesh them out the ideas a little more, but these initial recordings retain an indefinable "something" for me, so I decided to retain those songs on this most recent edition as well.- J.H. 6/06

...By the way, for those that enjoy the acoustic side of this album, here's a link to another album I have available here on CDBaby!

This cat's great
There are a few wordsmiths out there, indeed; there are great guitar players and superb vocalists. James has 'em all.

A superb musician!!!!
James is a wonderful architect of music. His flawless musicianship and poetic lyrics continue to inspire me more and more each time I listen to them. This CD has something in it for everyone. It is the most eclectic CD I have purchased in a long time. His acrobatic guitar style and beautiful lyrics are enough to make any foot tap and body sway. A must have for any fan of REAL music.

All of the songs on this CD are thought provoking, deep songs. I hope that the rest of the fans of music listen with an open mind. Personal fave, "I Wonder".... I truly do.

James Hurley was a new name to me, but my money was well spent! A great mix of electric and acoustic tracks which reminded me a lot of Ian Parker. Who? Find his website!!! Am I the only Blues fan in Wales with this cd? I hope not - it deserves a wide audience. Thank you James.

It's Just......WOW!
It's one of those cd's you can listen to ten times a day and not get sick of it. It's good for everyone in the family. The lyrics relate to everyone, and have awsome parts for the differnt insterments. And then there's the back up vocals and harmonys, sorry, it's just a great CD that everyone should have the pleasure of owning.

James Hurley has prepared a highly underrated treat here, opening to surprise the listener with the crunchy, dark and yet deliciously indulgent groove of “Creature” it leads into the gorgeously sparse “Take Me Away.” Although it’s seen on the entire album on the songs “Take Me Away”, “I Wonder” and “Somedays” the most striking feature to be seen is James’ ability to lyrically and musically personify a mood, place in time and feeling. The journey, wind, excitement and open highway is painted beautifully in the twelve-string solo on “Take Me Away”, the sense of wonder is truly evoked in “I Wonder”, and the gentle waves reflected in the opening notes of “Somedays” to a build tumultuous crashing in James’ powerful strumming.

From the jazzy elements reflected in “Whisper” and “The Girl.” Folk is also found through out the album, on “The Girl” as well to the toe-tapping “She Still Loves Me”, the adventure and lovely lunacy (unrelated note: a fellow moon lover) of "London Bridge" and the incredible ending to an intense opening, the subtle “Light Your Smile.” Perfected blues and classic rock and roll on “Trouble Up Ahead” (if that song doesn’t get you moving, you need to hop in the ground, for you are dead) and the heart-aching “Walk Away.” Then slightly flamenco or Spanish lilts found in many of the acoustic numbers as well as “When I’m With You.” Pure rock/pop balladry on “I’ll Find A Way” and a soulful r&b variation on “Almost Believe” but Hurley-fied in being that it lacks typical shmaltz and speaks truth. Not only a wizard of the strings, James’ lyrics are a masterpiece in and of themselves. Bear in mind these elements and influences are found throughout all of the album, on ALL of the tracks not just the specified ones.

There is no genre, no mood, no emotional range that this album does not speak to. This brilliant creation is (yes) eclectic and speaks to the whole human experience. That is it’s beauty of it above all.

It's very Eclectic, Versaltile, and Musically in sync.
The cd has great vocals including the hamonys covering everything from Classic Rock to a tad touch of country (she still loves me). It's definetly worth ten dollars. It makes a great gift. I listen to it frequently. The guitar solos are indescribable. You'll just have to hear it for yourself.

James Hurley is Fantastic!
As a writer/arranger/guitarist, I'm hard to please. James Hurley's songwriting, singing and guitar playing leaves nothing to be desired...buy his CD!!
