Tempest in a Teacup

by James Hurley

Sparkles with honesty, depth, humor, and heart. Stories of a world that is sometimes amusing, occasionally maddening, and often inexplicable. Told with musical and lyrical imagery that captures the imagination and paints pictures for the mind's eye.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
When I first set out to put this album together I had a whole bunch of songs written and no clear idea which ones I should record. So instead of carefully selecting a dozen or so and rolling up my sleeves and going to work, I just began recording...one song after another, hoping and trusting that somehow during the process the songs themselves would determine which ones belonged together...Well, they did indeed, and "Tempest in a teacup" is the result.

This album covers a lot of territory in both musical style and lyrical content and it's quite possible some people might take issue with that...More than once it's been suggested that my career would be much better served by focusing on a single genre or style and pursuing that as a brand or a product...Probably true. That approach has worked really well for a lot of very successful artists. But for me, these albums represent the living of a life. And it seems perfectly reasonable and appropriate for them to be multi-faceted...'cause that's how the life we're living is...It's a journey from laughter to tears and back, with stops at every station along the way. I dunno, makes sense to me ;^)

So anyway, I really do hope you enjoy this collection of songs. And I hope something here gives you pause to think, reason to laugh, or perhaps even brings a tear, 'cause if so, the connection's been made and that's really all I can ask of a song.

Be well,

James

Absolutely Brilliant!
I love this CD! It is one of the most brilliant collections of songs I have ever heard. The songs are expertly written and performed. The production quality is amazing. The songs are gripping and mesmerizing and they envelop the listener with an almost hypnotic quality that makes one wish to play the CD again and again. The songs are thought provoking and beautiful. Mr. Hurley tells a story with each song. The lyrics are finely crafted with eloquence and masterfully combined with music to capture the imagination and touch the heart. There are a few songs that are just heart wrenching and cutting. James Hurley touches the heart and moves the soul. This album includes beautiful love songs and songs that express frustration at the futility of life at times. There are songs that are so much fun and that will get your toes to tapping. I think the order the songs come in is brilliant. This CD has something for everybody. There is every kind of influence combined to create a style that is best described as American on the rocks with a twist. James combines country, rock, blues and jazz to produce music which is truly remarkable. Tempest In A Teacup is a must have for any music Lover. I highly recommend this CD.

Tempest in a Teapot
It's one thing to live a life but utterly, creatively, beautiful to be able to recognize and paint it for others to see ... or hear! Molto bene!

Out of the ordinary
What is remarkable about this album of music is that it is original. Here is a collection of songs that is performed with emotion, highly defined lyrics and amzing musical back-up. So tastefully done! On my new stereo, I am pulled into this world of the Tempest in a Teacup; a fabulous metaphor for the largeness and smallness of life's complexity. This is a great CD and I seldom get to say that about many albums I purchase. Thanks, James. Keep it going!

finally... completely ...WONDERFUL
I've been watching this boy forever, and as a result have been rewarded with some of the best music ever, but this album seems to have reached a confidence that has been deserved for awhile; a genuine seamlessness in both approach and delivery.
Congrats, Compadre...
