Album Notes

Stephen James is a Soulful Singer with a sometimes gruff voice set to music that has the feel of Joe Cocker, Almann Brothers and Delbert McClinton. Every song on the album stands on its own both lyrically and musically. The diversity of Stephen James debut album ranges from boogie-woogie of the opening track “Ten Dollar Blues” to the funk sounds of “Tick Tock Clock” to the country sounds of “Never Made Mexico” which is reminiscent of Ray Charles in his early days. “Penny Saved” is a driving song highlighted by the unbelievable guitar work of musical guest Carter Arrington that will leave even the finest guitarists pushing the rewind button in amazement.

Stephen James is a Kansas born singer that considers himself a songwriter first. Eleven of the Thirteen songs on this 50 minute recording were penned by Stephen. “Music Man”, written by Shane Patterson serves as a biography to the inner battles musicians face when giving up a traditional lifestyle in pursuit of being a musician. “Just One Moment” , written by Anthony William, is simply an amazing song that seems to build indefinitely -The lyrics “There’s nothing ahead if You leave me behind” are just one of the many powerful lines that Stephens voice seems to melt into the listeners ears. The imagery in this album is excellent as any tune would be suitable for a video. "Always Feels Right" is a powerful album sure to strike a chord with any soul music lover.

Hot dang fantastic!

This album begins at 60 mph and never stops. You immediately think of Joe Cocker and Leonard Cohen. His voice grows on you till you're hooked. Looks like he wrote all songs but 2 which means he's an incredible writer too. Talk about talent!!!
