Parents' Choice Silver Award Winner!
NAPPA Gold Award Winner!
Barnes & Noble.com wrote in its 6-10-05 "Pick of the Week" column:
"One of the best kids' albums of 2005 -- or any year, for that matter -- My Daddy Is Scratchy brims with wit, wisdom, and a musical style that runs the gamut from Broadway to Steely Dan. Pssst, Mom! It's a perfect Father's Day gift."
Jamie Broza is back and better than ever. Giving fair play to dads, 'My Daddy is Scratchy' follows on the heels of Broza's first children's recording, 'Bad Mood Mom (and other Good-Mood Songs),' winner of the prestigious Parents' Choice Foundation Gold Award and named one of the ten best children's CDs of 2003 by Child magazine.
'My Daddy is Scratchy' picks up where Jamie's,'Bad Mood Mom', left off, offering eleven originals that explore the things that really matter to kids: avoiding vegetables, enduring embarrassing parents (especially when they SING), refusing to go to school, wheedling a few more minutes before bed. Stylistically, 'My Daddy is Scratchy' runs the gamut from rock to jazz to country, with one song, "Mommy is a Dynamo," sounding like a Hollywood musical-number from the 50's.
According to the Los Angeles Times, "accomplished musician and TV, film and stage composer Jamie Broza nails the rewards and challenges of parenthood with resonant wisdom, empathy, and humor from both parents' and kids' points of view ... With an expert, creative touch, Broza's tracks play like catchy numbers from a stage-worthy musical."
Kids love to hear other kids talk and sing - and there are lots of kids on 'My Daddy Is Scratchy'. Three of the songs are duets with children and another song is a duet Jamie sings with his own father - the well-known composer and conductor Elliot Lawrence. The CD also features the fabulous Nora York, a jazz singer par excellence who plays the role of mom.
Here are some comments about his last release:
"'Bad Mood Mom' is melodic, memorable, and magical."
- Jamie Lee Curtis
"Raffi and the Pied Piper have nothing on Jamie Broza. His marvelous, buoyant music hits kids where they live. They'll love it."
- Stan and Jan Berenstain
"'Bad Mood Mom' puts me in a good mood! Feels like a show about growing up, with incredible music. Let's take it to Broadway!"
- Marc Shaiman, Grammy Award-winning composer of the hit Broadway show, Hairspray, as well as numerous films, including A Few Good Men, South Park, and Sleepless in Seattle
Parents' Choice Foundation Gold Award!!! Bad Mood Mom made Parents' Choice's list of the top 25 CD in the last 25 years.

It’s all terrific!
author: Susan Brooke Day, Nashville Parent, July 2005Broza represents the best there is in children’s music. Ever since he came out with Bad Mood Mom, my music-loving kids have been fans (and so have I!). In My Daddy is Scratchy, Broza reveals once again the incredible talent he has for fun, empathy and all things kids: embarrassing parents, yucky vegetables, bed time resistance ... and it’s all terrific.
MY DADDY ROCKS OUT!
author: Carolyn Rogalsky, New York Family, June 2005Here’s a new CD written by an expert on the subject. Jamie Broza, Manhattan father of three, focuses his musical talents – and his winning way with words – on celebrating the warm and wacky father-child relationship … As he did on his 2003 award-winning CD Bad Mood Mom, Broza again demonstrates his understanding of young family dynamics, alternately expressing empathy, wisdom and humor.
BARNES & NOBLE RECOMMENDED SELECTION!
author: Steve Futterman, Barnes&Noble.com, May 2005The Platonic ideal that all children’s music should aspire to is quite simple: It must be as enjoyable for Mom and Dad as it is for the younger set. So simple, yet so elusive. When an artist hits this balance square on the head, as Jamie Broza does on My Daddy Is Scratchy, it’s a cause for celebration. Charming yet never sentimental, respectful rather than patronizing to kids and their concerns, this collection of fun -- and wise -- songs speaks the language of children while being set to creative music intended to hold the attention of the “mature” listener … In other words: A winning kid’s album that parents will actually look forward to playing.
A MUST HAVE!
author: School Library Journal, August 11, 2005Emmy Award winner Jamie Broza follows his popular Bad Mood Mom (2003) with a musical tribute to Dad while exploring other popular topics for youngsters along the way. Interviews with children along with a fun radio news hour are seamlessly woven among the songs. The expertly performed musical stylings include rock with a screaming guitar, country, smooth jazz, and a Broadway-style melody. This collection will delight the entire family and is a must-have for every collection.
A comic fatherhood roast!
author: Erika Milvy, Parenting Magazine, August 2005Clueless, embar-rassing, and, yes, scratchy dads are some of the characters your kids might recognize in this comic fatherhood roast. Jazzy vocals and amusing stories create musical theater about family life.

wonderful!
author: KathrynWe borrowed this CD from the library, and loved it so much (my 22 month old kept asking for 'Daddy is Scratchy') that we tracked it down on CD Baby. I highly recommend this CD to any family with a sense of humour!
Jamie, you're a genius
author: Jackson FamilyWe stumbled on your tunes while looking for another "Jamie" and heard a few the other day getting ready for work. Tonight we listened to all of "My Daddy Is Scratchy" while eating dinner with our kids, Andrew (12) Samuel (8) and Lillianne (3). We all laughed til our sides hurt. My 12 year old told me those songs were ripped straight from his journal. Thanks so much for crafting the perfect soundtrack for a sophisticated kid's journey to becoming a cool old person...
Wonderful!
