For Jamila Ford, the spirit of 70's isn't frozen in the past, it's a musical inspiration and support of the future. Building upon an old school soul vibe, Jamila provides an inspirational message to life. Be self empowered. Cut your own path in life.
On her debut CD, titled "Fabulous," she surpasses her musical influences, who range from the spiritual and socially conscience Erykah Badu to the expressive vocals of Nikka Costa and Aretha Franklin to the jazzy qualities of Jill Scott.
Jamila's featured songs such as "Music," capture the influence that music has on all of us in our lives. It has an emotional power to change us at different times in our life -- the power to pick us up when we are down, to inspire and to heal us. Jamila's theme of self-reliance and empowerment is detailed in "Don't Worry." The song's message is simple: move on. Create the future you want and deserve.
Jamila Ford understands the true power of music. Music has inspired her to become the artist and person she is today. Her music will be a source of inspiration and motivation in the development of who you will eventually become.

Fabulosa
author: Chano SantamariaThe intent is clear - Fabulous seeks to 1) establish Ford as a singer-songwriter; & 2) demonstrate her vocal chops. The immediate issue for listeners, perhaps, is that the album is only 4 tracks long. However, this suggests a disciplined artist preferring quality over induglence. True to its 70's spirit, this is groove-up writing and the record is filled with well-construced dance arrangements. Every track makes it very clear that Ford is a gifted vocalist. However, this potent gift has the ability to overpower the listener, and at times, it does this during vocal improv sections. Nonetheless, its rare in this genre for the performer to also be the writer. A number of R&B divas have released unpromising debuts - this is hardly the case. There isn't much gimmick in Fabulous - the performer is the writer and the performer-writer co-produced the record. A task that many of Ford's contemporaries would not attempt. The intent is clear. Fabulous achieves its grandiose title.

This is R&B like they seem to have forgotten how to make these days. The energy and the spontaneity make it all catch fire. Like a force of nature, this girl's voice, untamed, has vast, albeit not always realised possibilities. I sense greatness here & I'd be interested to hear more.
You need to listen to your self, don't let anyone else tell you what to sing.
author: Carla EastmanI heard you in person, listen to that inner voice. Never sing anything you don't love - Never sing anything you don't really feel. It needs to be you. Always give it all you've got!God bless you and use your gift. We are expecting you to shine. Carla + Bill
