Album Notes

Since the debut of her first original song on a rural South Dakota high school stage, Jami Lynn has continued to sing, play, and write with ever increasing intensity, dexterity, and above all, originality. However, it wasn’t until her sophomore year at the University of South Dakota that she caught the ears of bassist Josh Rieck. Shortly after they began sharing music, Rieck introduced Jami Lynn’s material to two members of the Sioux Falls folk rock/bluegrass band, Snakebeard Jackson. Within a month, Jami Lynn and the Aquila Band, comprised of Jami Lynn on lead vocals and guitar, Sean McFarland on mandolin and backups, Josh Rieck on the upright bass, and Matt McFarland on drums, had formed. Within another month the decision had been made to record an album the following July. The band’s bluesy jam “Dreamer” showcases the eclectic sound derived from the unique style of each member. Jami Lynn’s soulful vocals are complimented by Sean’s McFarland’s tight harmonies and rhythm mandolin, while Rieck and Matt McFarland add depth and shape with instinctive off beats and slides. The band’s main focus is to maintain their traditional music roots while still stretching vocal and instrumental boundaries and maintaining originality.
