Que me disculpe Jeanne Devin, pero opino diferente. Primero que nada el CD si contiene los créditos de quien grabó las voces y es la super reconocida cantante Socky Torres. Segundo, si es verdad que la instrumentación no es en vivo, pero la música que esta a mi me me gusta así de sencilla, esta bien tocada, y a mi me parece que la interpretación esta hermosa. Para un proyecto como este no se necesita hacer música para los músicos, entiendo que los arreglos de Freddie Mendez hacen el trabajo NECESARIO para estas canciones y por ultimo me parece que realmente lo que este comentario busca es: aprovechar el excelente trabajo de Freddie Mendez para promocionar ese otro CD. Como dicen en Puerto Rico: esta persona quiere coger pon. De verdad que RECOMIENDO este CD. La voz de Socky Torres es ESPECTACULAR!

Good try, but the instrumentation loses something.

Would that I could give this CD of Freddie Mendez a higher rating! The songs are beautiful and well performed, with the reverence and sentiment proper to prayer songs from an annual Puerto Rican festival to the Cross and the Blesed Virgin. My concerns are that, first, as so often happens with Mendez's recordings, we don't know who the choir is, so they don't get the recognition they rightly deserve. Second, despite the best efforts of the instruments--whether real or synthesized--the music comes off less than authentic, and thus the recording loses something of the flavor that can only be captured by a traditional-style performance. Those truly interested in hearing these songs as they were intended to be heard would do better buying the Isabelo Rivera CD (also available at CD Baby), which contains many of the same selections.
