Album Notes

Jazz/Rhythm harpist Jan Aldridge Clark's explosive debut CD
is truly a unique listening experience! After completing degrees in classical performance atThe Music Academy of the West Santa Barbara,Indiana University Bloomington, and California State University Los Angeles, Jan headed for Las Vegas, where she performed nightly at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino. It was recommended to her by friendly patrons that she play something with a groove. She was dismayed at realizing she'd never learned to groove on the harp at college,so she went back to the drawing board, enlisting in studies with renowned jazz/pop harpist, Carrol McLaughlin.
After intensive studies, Jan began showing up at jam sessions, sitting in with Bass and drums. She then left Los Angeles to try out her new jazz skills on cruise ships and formed her own rhythm combos to the delight of many a listener.Soon, though, motherhood came on the scene, and with the advent of two beautiful children, Jan dropped out to raise them full-time. After the children were old enough, she promptly hit the recording studio. The result is delightfully "Anything But Ordinary!" Enjoy!

For any jazz fans or harp fans you must own this CD. It is a must. I am thinking of ordering more copies to keep in my car, home, etc. Jan is an inspriation to all harp players. I never thought the sounds she gets out of her harp were possible. I look forward to her next album. Christine Weatherford

A refreshing change

I'm not really a jazz fan or an expert on music at all, but I really love this CD. I listen to it on my commute and it helps the world go away. My children (10 and 7) love it as well. I highly recommend this CD to anyone.

great new jazz for harp with friends (drums, bass, guitars, etc)
author: Dr. T. Arnold
Fresh jazz arrangements utilizing harp as the center of a jazz combo. Nice grooves with definite hooks - not interminable ramblings like some "smooth jazz" recordings. Clearly establishes the harp as having a place in the jazz world. Very well recorded - everyone comes off very clear and balanced. Nice treatments of jazz classics "Naima" by Coltrane and "Autumn Leaves". The rest are originals that are easy to listen to, yet complex enough to hold one's interest. Much better than average. Very hip. Serve up with a good Malbec or Pale Ale. No Bud-Light allowed!
