The album is a mix of the many different phases of my life and of my musical growth. I have been through quite a roller coaster of experiences and I think it is reflected in my songs. I wanted to include some that aren't here and I included some that I am still trying to perfect. I guess that is the reason for the title. I am a formally trained drummer and I've studied music all of my life. After I graduated from college, I formed several bands and played a few gigs. Things just never seemed to work out. So, I basically became a solo artist and immersed myself into my passion for rap and hip-hop. I think this was my most productive period because I was dealing with a lot of anger and needed to get things off of my chest. I wrote a ton of songs. I rapped and performed solo, as well as with a number of local Grand Rapids artists. Eventually, the game changed and I felt I no longer had anything to say, so I changed my career choice, I moved back an forth from Michigan to New York several times and everytime I went to the city, I caught the music bug again and started writing. After 9-11, I lost a lot of my anger and began writing more patriotic and positive music. I began singing more and only rapping occassionally. I became a huge country fan for a time and wrote a couple of country tunes. Then I went back to my rock roots and started mixing and blending my rock with my hip hop and finally, I just decided to do whatever I was feeling at any given time. It seems to be working for me. I'm much less concerned with trying to keep up with what's going on "out there" and now I can focus more on what going on "in here", in my own mind. So this CD is a basic sampler of who I am right at this moment. I'm sure it will evolve again. Change is about the only thing you can count on.
