Album Notes

Originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee, Jane Brock now lives in the Nashville area, but ironically moved here for family reasons and not for a music career. However, the career has found her, as evidenced with the brand new release, “Low-Backed Dress”. Jane writes both the lyrics and music on all the tracks on the album, along with holding down the keyboards and loops. But the main attraction is Jane’s voice, which soars on the lead vocals, with a huge range and variety of dynamic techniques. Jane also especially loves to design and perform complex backing vocals tracks, and she exhibits this ability throughout the album.

With regards to her writing process, Jane says that the music and lyrics often arrive at the same time, which she says allows the medium of melody and chords to actually speak the message of the lyrics. She adds that, “in writing lyrics, I do write autobiographically, but I also use my imagination, adding and subtracting from my own personal experiences which may or may not speak to my listeners. To help my audience key in, I try to think about what word choices or phrasing would bring my idea to life in their minds, not just my mind. Successful songwriting has to reach the listener where they are, where they’ve been, or where they are going in their lives—it’s not just about me and what I think.”
