Lyrically concious R&B music, that is beautifully spiced with a flavor of afro-beat, Jazz, Reaggae and worldbeat. If Jill scott is neo-soul and India.Aire is accoustic soul, then Janelia is the eclectic soul.

Biography:
Janelia sings with a spicy groove that will ignite you in the deepest part of your soul. Her music will make you meditate, take to jubilation and realize pure ecstasy, all in one sitting. She hails from a dynamic background of an American father and a Nigerian mother. She was born in Houston, Texas but grew up in the western part of Nigeria, Africa, a country where great musicians like Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade and Sade Adu originated.

Inspired by these Nigerian Icons, Janelia developed a flare for music and entertainment. She began writing songs when she was eight years old. By the time she reached her teenage years, she was recognized for her writing and singing skills. She also acted in her father's independent films and took vocal lessons as a member of her church chior.

Upon finishing high school in Nigeria, Janelia returned to the United States to pursue a music career as a singer/songwriter. She attended Morgan State University, which was a training ground for her. Other than the array of open mics, jam sessions and talent shows she participated in successfully while in college, she was the elected president of a social club, known as (ISA), the international students association. Through this forum, she was able to organize frequent shows for aspiring artists like herself (ISA Night). The overall experience gave her the accessibility of interacting intimately with ideas and concepts from other cultures, especially the caribbean, which is where the reggea influence in her music came from.

Janelia recorded her first demo in 1998, which landed her a gig in a popular local band named Universal Soul. From there, word began to get around the music community about her unique sound. This earned her the invitation to do vocal sessions with various R&B, Zouk, Reggea and African groups as well as touring nationally and internationally with varios bands including Orlando Julius ( O.J ) Ekemode band. In addition Janelia has also had the honor of singing the Nigerian and American anthems at many special occassions such as the Y2K Nigeran Presidential Forum in Atlanta, where she was acknowledged as the Nigerian president's favorite singer.

Janelia has written a collection of over a hundred songs, which comprises of a whole spectrum of genres with R&B as the strongest link. In the fall of 2000, she got together with some of the industry's finest proffessional musicians to develop her latest project "I'll Be Waiting" , a collections of 11 songs. The album is an eclectic fusion of R&B, reggea, & worldbeat with sultry, sensual, groovy and melodic vibe.

Today, Janelia's music has evolved into a unique style that is innovative yet familiar enough to have a crossover appeal. she has a strong stage presence with the ability to captivate an audience of various backgrounds. Her lyrics are powerful and enchanting and she has a serious touch of personal style. Janelia admits that she has found a deep joy in music and it is this same joy that she intends carrying into the hearts of every one of her fans.

Spiritual
author: Yetunde Famogun
You know when i listen to it, it sounds Gospel and then sounds like soul. i met with her at the Redeem Jesus House entertainment night and she was just so simple and you can tell she sings from the heart. As i listened to track eight i began to cry and there was a joy that came over me. I was going thru some stuff spiritually but listening to her made my burdens disappear and made me to realise that God will take care. You Janelia it might a song you wrote for your husband but i tell you to me it's a love song to God. keep the Lyrics flowing, and i some day would join you, maybe we can sing a duet together. I'll check the City paper for that Vocal lessons. Cheers and God Bless you.
