A casserole of nonsense.

No matter how badly I wanted to enjoy this CD, I couldn't feel anything but annoyance. Other than "When We Are A Vampire" and an abbreviated version of "Love Is Everything," this CD offers little else truly musical. Siberry herself calls it a radio play which is apropriate as it is as irritating as listening to the radio. How a musician of such brilliance could view this album as worthy of $21 is beyond comprehension. Is it arrogance on her part? Hard to say. Whatever it is, the bottom line is that this is her weakest effort in an otherwise brilliant catalog.

Meshach Dreams Back is

A contemporary version of T S Elliot but more outside the box, AND funnier. The visionary aspects of Orwell and the poetry of Michael Ondaatje combined. Throw in the psychological depth of Dostoyevski, the complexity of Joseph Campbell's 'Heart of Darkness' and you have Jane Siberry's music...

Woof!

If anyone expected 'Part 3' to be 'more of the same'......well, welcome to Jane's World! It's as if the wildest wizardesses and warlocks of remix, the maddest, bad-ass mash-up merchants have been were access to the master-tapes of Jayne's Brain, heart & soul.
There are no songs, and yet: there are so many songs. Old songs ("maybe it was to learn how to love...." ), new songs, future songs, demos, fragments of demos. There is hi-tech, lo-tech and poly-tech. The first few listens, it's like you're on spin-cycle in a washing machine on LSD. Synthesia. Soliloquy. Dialogue. Chorus (Greek). Verse. Chorus. Middle-Eight. Love. Hate. Tragedy. Comedy. Super-heroes. Canine consciousness.
I wonder how this album would sound to a non-English speaker? There's utterly polyphonic, symphonic tapestry of voices which meld, weild, weld, weave and wharf with the 'words' and rhytmns. Maybe Jayne will do a French version for her friends in Quebec? "incanted words in a language i have never heard before" Eloquently enunciated word-salads. Left-brain, right-brain stereophonic sequencing.
There's old time religion, testament, testimonies of 'Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth of the midst of the fire', fire and brimstone, and there's the light-christ-consciousness of Issa hidden within the muliverse, multitrack. "But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows."
I always expect strange things to issue forth when the portal of Samhain opens, but this year really has opened an unknown chakra. Jayne has told us that her 'songs' are 'energy containers'. There is so much energy in this album: fission, fusion, Higgs boson, black holes, supernovas - all of which seem to be accessible to the intrepid artist ready to fearlessly draw their swords.
Finally, this album comes highly recommended by Alfie Snowy Silver Starlight. He is my familiar, my daemon, my companion animal. I am his 'pet'. He responds to this album, hearing hidden frequencies, attuned to the harmonies hidden. Alfie hears Magic!
Many blessing to you Jayne. And to Issa! Consider the lilies of the field.....
