notes

"There comes a time, when silence is betrayal" MLK 1967.

That time came for Janet, Feb 2003 upon reading these words from the Riverside speech by Dr Martin Luther King.
She found his words moved her, and that if she were to remain silent, she would betray her belief that there was something very wrong about the pending Iraq war.
She thus became very active in the antiwar movement and when the war invariably began, out of hopelessness and despair, she started writing music.
She quickly found that people wanted to hear music about the events of the time, songs with a message.
As a Canadian, living in the US, protesting a war, her life has not been without her fair share of conflict.
Audiences liken her soprano voice to singers such as Joan Baez and Judy Collins, and her folk style songs are often described as somewhat Celtic. She plays 12 string guitar.
Although she began with political songs, she also has penned several songs on topics as diverse as love, family, and the elderly.
"A time has come..." is a wonderful acoustic blend of songs with fingerpicking guitar, banjo, Keyboards and a variety of percussion instruments. There is also mandolin and harmonica is a few select songs.
Janet's vocals are enriched with harmony by the other band members.
"Three nuns" is a song that intends to make people aware of the unjust incarceration of 3 sisters, for protesting war.

  • For Whom? For You!
    author: Robert A. Cunningham

My favorite song on this CD is "Where Time Goes" 'cause everyone past a certain age can really relate to it; I certainly can. I also thoroughly enjoyed "Neighbour," "Times Like This," "Don't Look Away," "American Soldier," "For Whom," and "Here in your Arms."
