Janet Bates and the Instruments of Change
Blending Original Folk with Traditional and Contemporary Styles
Based in Bandon Oregon
Janet has been given the timely gift of translating contemporary events into thought provoking musical poetry and song. With a voice that has been compared to Joan Baez, the music is reminiscent of the '60's and a reflection of the times we're living in. Janet's melodies leave listeners humming her tunes of days.
The song "For Whom" from Janet's CD "A Time Has Come," has been chosen for a compilation CD, "Songs for a Better Planet."
Janet has also be chosen as a finalist in the Solarfest singersongwriter competition, so will be performing there July 17 2005 (in Tinmouth Vermont)

Biography
Janet Bates and the Instruments of Change perform primarily traditional and contemporary folk music, at times described as Celtic. The most unique aspect of their music is the content of the songs. Janet is a gifted, prolific and passionate songwriter, her songs deeply moving in their portrayal of the personal to political themes of the day. The band complements and enhances Janet's songwriting and vocals by developing the songs into a tightly woven blend of harmonies and instrumentation.
Janet dreams a world of peace, compassionately, lovingly, devotedly conveyed in her songs of struggle, injustice, hope and love.
Janet and her band have played extensively on the southeastern Oregon coast that is their home at fundraising concerts, developing a following of fans and recently embarked on their first acoustic tour as a duo to the mid-west.The band is heading out on tour of British Columbia this summer.

Another great CD
author: Robert A. CunninghamThere are so many great songs on this CD, it is hard to choose a favorite. "Time To Go" has a special meaning for me, so I guess it wins the pick, but "Joe Hill," "Not in Kansas Anymore," "Women in Black," "Who Will Pay The Price," and "Makayla" are all top notch. Of the 14 songs on this CD, the only one I did not like was "He is coming back for me," but 13 keepers out of 14 songs is a great average! Janet, you are awesome!
