Janet Griffin is a singer/songwriter with influences ranging from Bonnie Raitt and Lowell George to Janis Joplin and Aretha Franklin. Solo and in various combinations, Janet has been playing for more than 25 years delighting her audiences with her soaring voice and powerful delivery.
Growing up outside of Annapolis, MD, Janet learned to play the guitar at age 13 and immediately began to write original music. She began to play local coffee houses and perform in a variety of theater productions. She joined her first band at the age of 18 and worked for many years fronting a variety of groups from folk, to rock to blues and Motown. Janet also performed for 7 years at the Maryland Renaissance Festival as part of two musical comedy acts, Washbourne and Whare and Full Measure. This setting helped to hone the wit that is part of Janet's stage show.
In 2000, when Janet returned full time to writing and performing her brand of soul-filled acoustic music, her re-entry into the folk world was welcomed by her loyal fans. Since that time, she has performed with Michelle Shocked, David Wilcox, Rod Picott and many others.
In 2003, Janet independently released her first CD "Gabriel". She brought together an amazing array of players such as Jay Turner (bass), Jeff Sarli (slide guitar), and Josh Howell (percussion) along with other local talent. This long-awaited project features songs that have been delighting her fans for years as well as strong new compositions. Some tracks are fun, some are truly breathtaking and all will make you think!
"I have seen Janet perform solo before, and she knows how to keep a crowd's attention. She is a beautifully talented singer/songwriter with a voice that can bring a complex song to a visual understanding of effortless musical indulgence. If you ever go and hear her, which you should, sit and close your eyes and you will understand what I'm saying." Dave Roberts, Music Monthly, Jan 2004, Vol. 21, No.1 Issue #232

Deep and Rich like Dark Chocolate
author: Pauline Schmitt
Lyrics with plenty of hurt and soul (Gabriel, See the Girl). Janet Griffin sings from the heart and counters these deep (Bold Man), gutsy, bluesy, thunderous tunes (Almight Zeus) with lively stomping fun songs (Mamma Wants to go Out Dancing). This one stays in the player.
