notes

Jane Wright sings original folk/pop music with a distinctive, rich voice and a soulful, southern flare. A talented musician and an outstanding songwriter with a stellar voice to showcase her tunes, Jane Wright surprises the listener on each song with her polished musical style. Jane began writing music and singing in bands in the early 90's earning praise from loyal fans, fellow musicians, and music critics alike.

In 1999 she established Back Porch Productions, an independent record label in Portland, Oregon. In the summer of 2000, she released her solo debut CD, Synergy. A self-produced artistic project showcasing Jane's wide range of styles, Synergy is a collection of rock, country, pop and jazz. Synergy was awarded an Oregon arts grant by the Regional Arts and Culture Council, and features a host of Portland talent.

For her second release, Southern Songs and Ballads, Jane Wright dives into her deep south roots, musically creating the sounds of trains, horses, and plaintive country ballads as she croons softly with her sultry voice while playing guitar. Jane promises a soulful and distinctively southern live sound while wowing you with her innovative songwriting talents.
A veteran of Portland's music scene, Jane can also be found featured on Deep Roots 2,3,& 4: The Troutdale Poetry Experiment, Habitat For Humanity's Northwest Foundations, Jen Bernard's, Losing My Skin, and Musique's, "Christmas Northwest." She has contributed her voice to local groups including The Stephanie Schneiderman Band and Purusa. She is also a 2001 winner of Best Song for the Portland Songwriters Association Showcase, as well as winner of Best Performance at the 2001 Year End Showcase.

Jane Wright grew up in the small college town of Auburn, Alabama. Starting at six years old, she played several classical instruments (violin, French horn and piano) while training her voice by imitating vocal greats including Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin and Etta James. The diversity of Jane's style can be traced to playing classical music, singing jazz and soul, while absorbing radio influences of the 70's and 80's.

Jane Wright is an artist who captures moments in her songs. Jane plays regularly in the Pacific Northwest. More information can be found on her Web site at www.janewrightband.com

  • You'll listen to this amazing CD over and over
    author: George Purvis, Beaverton, OR

Southern Songs and Ballads is amazing. Song writer Jane Wright's beautiful voice and acoustic guitar carry her own wonderful lyrics. I've listened to every song on the album countless times and enjoyed them every time. Fun, sad, reflective, special - all of the songs ring true to another displaced Southerner. The best depends upon your mood. In the mood for fun, try "How's About You" and "Sugarmama". Longing for another place in another time, listen to "Alabama Song". Lonely - "Somebody Special". Friendship - "Miguel". Reflective - "What More Can I Say" and "Beautiful".
