Album Notes

Jango Rhythm

Jango: Something that comes together unexpectedly and turns out better than one could have planned.

Rhythm: The pattern of musical movement through time.

Jango Rhythm is a rock n'roll band. Their music ranges from acoustic folk to roots rock to atmosphere and groove to melodic and bluesy hard driving rock.

PRE-SIMPLIFY is the first official Jango Rhythm release. It was recorded and mixed at Sugarhill Studios with Dan Workman and John Griffin. Included with the album is a music video/DVD for the hit single "Easy Woman".

On guitar and backing vocals is Johnny Rock.

Johnny was born in central Texas and was raised on healthy helpings of Southern rock, legendary blues, and screaming leads. Johnny met Adam, and together they began forming the current lineup of Jango Rhythm.

Johnny's primary instrument is guitar, particularly electric lead guitar. His favorite axe is one he made himself from a tree that was struck by lightning near his childhood home... That's why it has lightning on the top. He plays through any amp and effects he damn well feels like!

Running back downstairs, Jango Rhythm was just beginning. The drummer starting off the song with a unique reggae influenced stomp. He is good. (And good drummers are hard to come by.) Phil, John, and Adam (no last names, please!) round out the crew. Phil plays bass clean -- no effects, straight ahead. John and Adam have pedal boards that stretch into the next county. God, I love to see either almost no effects, à la Teri Greene, or an excess of noodling gear. Keep that middle-of-the-road crap. Okay, Jango Rhythm is mining that garage band aesthetic from a bit more mature, wiser, and talented perspective. From hooky chorus to anthemic foot stomping, these guys are not about to give up the ghost on straight-ahead rock, from more of a Replacements attitude than AOR or Top 40. All the songs have that familiar flavor without being staid, lifted, tired, or overused. There is just enough familiarity to get your deal cooking and just enough originality to keep you in it. Quite a trick, really. I don't think they have gigged out much, so they still looked a little tense, but that seemed to add to the edge and immediacy of the music. Watch for their shows about town.
