En 2008 ve la luz el álbum debut de la pianista Janice Faber, una recopilación de conocidos himnos eclesiásticos interpretados en piano solo de no más de treinta y cinco minutos. Rest Assured, que así es como se titula este primer trabajo de Faber, contiene obras breves que glorifican la palabra de Dios con melodías esperanzadoras, cálidas y entrañables, acercando con gracia al oyente hacia un lugar donde el afecto y la esperanza son perceptibles. Janice procede de una enseñanza musical fuertemente arraigada a la iglesia, interpretando música de este género en el piano de la pequeña iglesia de su ciudad, es en ese instante cuando nació este risueño álbum.  

El primer tema de Rest Assured es "Day By Day", una pieza que nos descubre una fragilidad y ternura difíciles de describir. Una delicia cerrar los ojos y dejarse llevar por la melodía e imaginar a la pianista interpretar y vivir esta obra.

El segunda pieza es una magnífica adaptación que Faber hace de "In This Very Room", una composición original de 1979 escrita e interpretada por Ron y Carol Harris. La música es dulce, reveladora de inolvidables y entrañables momentos. Me encanta!.

"Blessed Assurance" es un reconocido himno cristiano del año 1873 escrito por Phoebe P. Knapp. La música está llena de esperanza y fuerza, un sentimiento optimista que ayuda a seguir caminando por la senda correcta.

El único medley lo encontramos en la cuarta pista de Rest Assured,  "Jesus Loves The Little Children/Jesus Loves Me". Una pieza de lo más conmovedora, las notas nos procuran aliento y afecto con mucha fuerza.

"Amazing Grace" es la eterna canción. Una de las piezas cristianas más versionadas por cualquier pianista. Existen una infinidad de adaptaciones, en esta ocasión, Janice se aleja con sutileza de la partitura original, dejando reconocible el popular estribillo. Original!.

"My Jesus I Love Thee" es jubilo. Una música que eleva el alma gracias a sus acordes y notas que entretejen una melodía radiante de luz. Otra de las piezas destacables en Rest Assured!.

"Oh How He Loves You and Me" es una emotiva composición en la que Janice muestra una delicadeza y una expresión maravillosa. De entre todas las piezas incluidas en este CD, esta es una de las más bellas.

A principios del año 1800, Dorothy A. Thrupp daba vida a "Savior Like a Shepherd Lead Us", un himno con mucha energía. Janice apuesta por una adaptación más suave, las notas fluyen con armonía generando una música exquisita. Me gusta!.

Otra de las obras de las que más versiones se han hecho es "How Great Thou Art". Esta versión es pausada, de una calma sorprendente. La melodía varía levemente de la pieza original, algo más lenta y cálida. Otra belleza!.

"Gentle Shepherd" es una obra de principios de los años cincuenta escrita por William J. y Gloria Gaither. Inspirada por aires bucólicos, esta pieza originalmente es profunda y lenta. Janice le ofrece a la melodía un toque más rápido. Me gusta!.

"Near to the Heart of God" es una música consejera, tierna. Con un fluir lento al comienzo, esta se va tornando algo más resuelta. Faber interpreta en su piano una de las piezas más delicadas de todo el álbum. Un final muy apropiado para Rest Assured!.


Aunque Rest Assured es un álbum compuesto por himnos eclesiásticos, Janice Faber nos presenta once piezas risueñas y encantadoras, perfecta para ser escuchadas en cualquier momento del día. Rest Assured no sólo nos acerca a la palabra de Dios, es una recopilación de fantásticas obras que levantan el ánimo. Rest Assured es un álbum recomendable.

"Rest Assured: Hymns On Piano" was pianist/composer Janice Faber’s debut CD, and is a gently soothing collection of eleven traditional hymns and praise songs enhanced with some of Faber’s original music. It was originally released several years ago when Faber’s three children were quite small. She and her husband used the music for rocking them to sleep as well as for their own relaxation at the end of a long day. People requested more of this music and shared stories of how the music comforted them in difficult times. Faber has been a church pianist since she was a child, so this music is a very big part of her life, giving her the ability to express meaning in the music that goes far beyond the scope of the lyrics. Her approach to the music on this album is one of soothing comfort and reassurance. Her touch is gentle yet strong and confident, making this a recording that anyone can enjoy simply for the beauty of the music whether or not they are drawn to the hymns themselves. For anyone who enjoys solo piano hymns, this album is a must-have, as is the follow-up Measures of Grace (2009). On both albums, some of the hymns are familiar classics while others are less well-known, making for a richly rewarding listening experience.

"Rest Assured" begins with “Day By Day,” a gorgeous hymn played with grace and sensitivity - a lovely start. “Blessed Assurance” is one of the best-known hymns, yet Faber makes it her own. Her flowing left hand brings out the best of the melody and fills it with warmth. “Jesus Love The Little Children” and “Jesus Loves Me” are two of my favorite hymns from childhood Sunday School, and Faber’s medley is gentle, innocent, and very sincere. I’m always fascinated by all of the different interpretations of “Amazing Grace,” and Faber’s is one of the most beautiful solo piano arrangements I’ve heard - quiet and gently flowing. “Savior Like a Shepherd Lead Us” has an elegant flow and a deep emotional connection that really comes through - beautiful! “How Great Thou Art” is another classic hymn, given a fresh and contemporary make-over that is true to the original melody and spirit of the piece. One of my favorites is “Gentle Shepherd,” a hymn I was not familiar with. The melody is simple and heartfelt, and Faber’s arrangement is wonderful. “Near To The Heart of God” is the closing hymn, ending this excellent CD on a quiet, thoughtful note.

"Rest Assured" is a beautiful album from the first note to the last. I very highly recommend it!

I listen to this CD ALL the time. I especially enjoy it when I am tense, angry, lonely.  It calms me quickly.  It is soothing, lovely, and thoughtful--all at once.  I don't know how I would get from day to day without this wonderful CD.
