Album Notes

JANIS & ELVIS
To mark the 50th anniversary of a unique, and highly-collectible 10" LP, El Toro Records brings you the iconic "Janis & Elvis", re-issuing the eight tracks included originally plus a handful of extra bonus tracks from each artist.

One of the rarest and most sought-after record releases from the last half-century of Elvis Presley collectibles, the big ten-incher titled Janis and Elvis was issued through Teal Records, the company who had the local license to issue RCA records in South Africa at the time, and the elusive original now commands figures in excess of $5,000.

Sadly, while this release was in production we learned that Janis had been diagnosed with a terminal illness and she has since died. She will be a sadly-missed figure on the current rock 'n' roll scene, having been an indefatigable and exciting performer throughout her life. R.I.P. Janis.

I love to hear Elvis and Janis. This is a great album even tho' neither of them have ever sung together. Thanks for a great CD.

The original 10” lp is one of the rarest rock’n’roll record and is in high demand by collectors. It has been released by RCA in South Africa but only one day after its release, Colonel Parker called to take it back from the shelves cause nobody performs with Elvis and it was titled “Janis and Elvis” instead of “Elvis and Janis”. El Toro has added 18 tracks to the 8 originals but don’t expect any unissued stuff. Let’s put it frankly, if you’re a hardcore rockabilly fan you probably own this songs (and probably in more than one format) but if you’re a newcomer it’s the perfect introduction to discover this two great stars and it’ll give you the will to dig deeper. But don't forget : they never recorded together. These songs are either by Elvis or Janis. The cd features an informative booklet and a fine repro of the original artwork.
