Jann Klose’s current Studio EP BLACK BOX, now in its third pressing, has been called “by far the best unsigned record I have heard in a long time” by Kid Kelly of Sirius Satellite Radio. The CD has certainly been a key ingredient — along with an active desire to perform for people all over the globe — in building Jann's career.
Jann’s songs BLACK BOX and IT’S NOT THE WAY have recently been licensed to film (Warner Bros. Home DVD “Dead Broke”, starring Paul Sorvino, Jill Hennessy) and overseas radio markets (Prambors Hits 3, Indonesia). A live video of WALK THROUGH THE RIVER has received over 60.000 downloads in file-sharing networks online and been seen on “Swept Away TV” in 60 U.S. markets. In addition, the EP was a favorite at regional college and adult alternative radio. He currently tours in the Northeast, Midwest and Mid-Atlantic U.S. and his native Germany.
Sounding like “a young Sting and a less histrionic Jeff Buckley” (Cleveland Scene Magazine), audiences and critics find comparison and originality in Jann’s sound and songwriting pen. Klose’s voice, has been described as “pliant and powerful”, and as “soulful and exciting” by the Boston Phoenix. A versatile artist, Jann’s recent endeavors include MOONLIGHT INTERIOR, a movement theatre production and collaboration with dancer, choreographer and director Yo-el Cassell. This evening length piece had a sold out Off-Broadway run at the Sande Shurin Theatre in New York City and featured Jann’s full band as well as 5 dancers.
Growing up in Kenya, South Africa and Hamburg, Germany, Jann’s first visit to the U.S. came as an exchange student to Cleveland, Ohio. Since his move to New York in 2000, Jann’s theatrical gigs as a singer/actor include touring with Broadway’s JEKYLL & HYDE, the European Tour of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR and performing in THE WHO’S TOMMY at NJPAC. Violinist and Jam-band leader Joe Deninzon had Klose sing on his albums and the two have partnered for tour dates. Jann and his band have opened for Steve Forbert, Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna guitarist Jorma Kaukonen, and he has shared the stage with guitar legend Les Paul.
Jann and his band (Upright/electric bassist Chris Marolf, drummer Patrick Carmichael, and keyboardist/accordionist Lars Potteiger) will be juggling out-of-town trips and local shows with studio sessions as they are beginning work on a new full-length CD.

A melodic trip through jazz, r & b, and contemporary pop.
author: Robert AmenizoJann Klose and Chris Maroff are in syc. I really enjoyed the versatility of his play list and to boot, he writes his own music. Hope to see more of Jann wherever he goes!
Best Independent Cd
author: KristinaI had the fortunate opportunity to interview this artist and review his cd for my column at my college publication. This is not only one of the best albums I have ever heard in my career as a music journalist, but it also embodies, heart, emotion, and inspiration there is not a bad track on this album. I love every song on the album because Klose brings something new to the table every song. My personal favorites are Black Box and Walk through the river. I can't believe this artist is still unsigned. The most powerful element to the album though is Klose himself. His Voice is melodic and mesmerizing and his energy captivating. I would definately recommend this cd to anyone who appreciates real musicianship.

author: Mark E. Waterbury, Music MorselsThe four song taste from this New York resident is an excellent precursor for a full length CD. With acoustic driven pop that is also quit edgy, Jann proves to be an excellent songwriter with pure talents on the six string. Add to this his robust but sweetly emotive voice with lyrics that emanate from his soul and the result is some very good music. The touching but intense ballad Fever In My Heart and snappy alt folk rock of Walk Through the River leave you hungry for more.

EP Release Brings Artist Further From Primordial Riffs And Closer To An Expans
author: Lenny Toots HoffmanThe midget wind chilled out and descended to scene one, of an all-time low act. Lonley drivers of Barrettas skidded into Hondas outside on the gravel roads. I was glad to be home with my new disc on a night like that; happy to be alive in the modern world. The jazz-man on the silver box took a giant swing at his trusty axe, and it made me feel like mother natures son, Instead of father times red-haired step-child. Do angels in heaven play guitar? these are four cool tunes.

Black Box is my favorite of Jann Klose's albums. There is alot of depth and personality within each song. Although somewhat short, this CD is a "must-have" for all music lovers!
smart original sound
author: David FJann's writing has an original sound and a clear personal style. His voice is powerful and the songs are beautiful, joyful and moving.
Great Music!
author: Kurt B.Jann, finally got to hear your music. Your voice, your music, your arrangements - all great! Your high notes are one of your trump cards - a rich but floating sound. I wish you well-deserved success.

My friends and I were fortunate enough to hear you perform at Dorian Books in May. We bought your CD "Black Box" on our way out. We can't wait to hear more of your music. Your music is refreshing. We are certainly going to try to hear you perform on June 24th in Youngstown. Keep up the great job. Sheri

jann klose has a relaxed, smooth tenor reminiscent of something between sting and anthony kiedis and his music is intelligent and thoughtful and original. i've listened to the ep several times and would have no problem listening to it many more times, as there always seems to be something to catch that i didn't catch before. the song "black box" is a finger-snapping jazzy pop tune with a catchy chorus, "it's not the way" has jann's voice overlapping itself in the chorus's smartly descending melody line, "fever in my heart" is a touching ballad, and "walk through the river" is an upbeat, deceptively intricate pop song with a great hook and lovely harmonies. i want to say "schon"? i don't know, my german sucks.
Really impressed with the BLACK BOX EP!
author: S. ShearerYou've come so far since the first CD. Want you to know you've got the stuff my friend, just keep at it! Would love to hear your work on film!
Influences from America to Africa ...
author: Ben Ohmart, MusicDish.comJann Klose has a voice that's not easy to mix up with others. Perhaps it's because he's one of those rare singers who had to prove himself on stage (European tour of Jesus Christ Superstar, US national tour of Jekyll & Hyde, and in The Who's Tommy), and therefore knows how to project and use more tricks than the more garage-taught singers of the modern age. It all starts with range, of course. Jann has that going for him, being originally from Germany and so he's one up on the rest of us as far as learning how to construct words and get the most out of English. One of the best songs here is the title track, 'Black Box,' which evokes the sexuality of George Michael with a crooner's method of rattling all the mileage out of whole notes that's possible. Acoustic in places, but most of the time this disc is an amalgamation of styles and influences from America to Africa. A good teaser.
"... a superb new EP ... this disc is a real find ..."
author: Jason Bracelin, Scene MagazineJann Klose's vocal range covers almost as much ground as Klose has himself. A native of Hamburg who has also lived in Kenya, Klose whetted his appetite for music at age 16, when he came to Cleveland as a foreign-exchange student. After finishing his studies in Germany, he returned to Ohio to launch his music career, eventually relocating to New York City in 2000. Klose is back in town this week, pushing a superb new EP of lush orchestral pop and jazz-inflected acoustic ballads. Sounding like a cross between a young Sting and a less histrionic Jeff Buckley, Klose's voice is pliant and powerful, and it's buffered nicely by the Hammond B3, cello, viola, and violin that brighten these impassioned numbers. From the blithe bebop of the title cut to the Art Garfunkel-sounding "It's Not the Way," this disc is a real find, meaning you'd do well to come to the Grog on Thursday; Klose is one of Germany's finest exports since Warsteiner.
