Jann Klose’s current Studio EP BLACK BOX, has been called “by far the best unsigned record I have heard in a long time” by Kid Kelly of Sirius Satellite Radio. The CD has certainly been a key ingredient — along with an active desire to perform for people all over the globe — in building Jann's career.
Jann’s songs BLACK BOX and IT’S NOT THE WAY have been licensed to film (Warner Bros. Home DVD “Dead Broke”, starring Paul Sorvino, Jill Hennessy) and overseas radio markets (Prambors Hits 3, Indonesia). A live video of WALK THROUGH THE RIVER has received over 100.000 downloads in file-sharing networks online and been seen on “Swept Away TV” in 60 U.S. markets. In addition, the EP was a favorite at regional college and adult alternative radio. Jann currently tours in the Northeast, Midwest and Mid-Atlantic U.S. and his native Germany.
Sounding like “a young Sting and a less histrionic Jeff Buckley” (Cleveland Scene Magazine), audiences and critics find comparison and originality in Jann’s sound and songwriting pen. Klose’s voice, has been described as “pliant and powerful”, and as “soulful and exciting” by the Boston Phoenix. A versatile artist, Jann’s recent endeavors include MOONLIGHT INTERIOR, a movement theatre production and collaboration with dancer, choreographer and director Yo-el Cassell. This evening length piece had a sold out Off-Broadway run at the Sande Shurin Theatre in New York City and featured Jann’s full band as well as 5 dancers.
Growing up in Kenya, South Africa and Hamburg, Germany, Jann’s first visit to the U.S. came as an exchange student to Cleveland, Ohio. Since his move to New York in 2000, Jann’s theatrical gigs as a singer/actor include touring with Broadway’s JEKYLL & HYDE, the European Tour of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR and performing in THE WHO’S TOMMY at NJPAC. Violinist and Jam-band leader Joe Deninzon had Klose sing on his albums and the two have partnered for tour dates. Jann and his band have opened for Steve Forbert, Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna guitarist Jorma Kaukonen, and he has shared the stage with guitar legend Les Paul.
Jann and his band (Upright/electric bassist Chris Marolf, drummer Patrick Carmichael, and keyboardist/accordionist Lars Potteiger) will be juggling out-of-town trips and local shows with studio sessions as they are beginning work on a new full-length CD.

Best Independent Cd

I had the fortunate opportunity to interview this artist and review his cd for my column at my college publication. This is not only one of the best albums I have ever heard in my career as a music journalist, but it also embodies, heart, emotion, and inspiration there is not a bad track on this album. I love every song on the album because Klose brings something new to the table every song. My personal favorites are Black Box and Walk through the river. I can't believe this artist is still unsigned. The most powerful element to the album though is Klose himself. His Voice is melodic and mesmerizing and his energy captivating. I would definately recommend this cd to anyone who appreciates real musicianship.

The four song taste from this New York resident is an excellent precursor for a full length CD. With acoustic driven pop that is also quit edgy, Jann proves to be an excellent songwriter with pure talents on the six string. Add to this his robust but sweetly emotive voice with lyrics that emanate from his soul and the result is some very good music. The touching but intense ballad Fever In My Heart and snappy alt folk rock of Walk Through the River leave you hungry for more.
