Hovers along the edges that separate human and electronic realities
author: Noah Creshevsky
I hadn't noticed the title (Music for Dance) until I had heard the album, but Jannone's music had nearly lifted me out of my chair as I listened. It's easy to hear the entire disc and to then play it again. Jannone's music is at once accessible and very deep. One can listen
carefully--there is so much detail--or casually. Jannone is both innately talented and a master technician. His pieces modulate seamlessly, hovering along the edges that separate human and electronic realities. In fact, Jannone succeeds in uniting human and electronic elements--fusing them into a music that is fresh, yet strangely familiar. There is nearly always a shadow of something human at the core of Jannone's music--bits of voices or fragments of tunes, fractured just enough to lend a sense of mystery. As one listens, it's possible to dance and party, or sit and study the bounty of compositional detail. I'd like to do both at the same time as I listen to these marvelous pieces. Highly recommended.
