Album Notes

"My first public 'performance' was singing karaoke to a transsexual emcee named Jackie."
Janson began at ten with opera lessons, but it was exposure to artists such as Jeff Buckley, Bjork, and Fleetwood Mac that inspired her to pursue songwriting. After graduating college she sought a creative outlet and taught herself to play guitar and piano. After writing several songs, she began playing coffeehouses and clubs in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego. Seasoned musicians Paul Gonzalez (Chaka Kahn/Louie Shelton) and JB Eckel (WAR/Santana) offered assistance recording and producing Janson's two EP's The Same Dust (2000), and Red Flags (2002).

"In under one year, I've 'fallen' in and out of love twice, worked five jobs, lived in two homes, and kept a band of four grown men together playing music about my crazy female whims."
Leaving LA behind in 2002, Janson packed keyboard and guitar in her car, and drove to Texas looking for new musical inspiration. In Austin, she put together a new band and has played clubs, festivals, and benefit concerts. She has received airplay on Austin college, national public, and commercial radio. Janson is currently recording and producing a full-length album entitiled "the three p's." Release is scheduled for September 2004.

Anthems of Encouragement for Those Facing the Winds of Life
author: Steve "The Doc" Bulack

The tracks of Nicole Janson's "The Same Dust" are anthems of encouragement for those who are standing with their faces into the winds of life and meaning to stand their ground. With inspiring beauty and strength, disarming candor, good-natured sympathy and unwavering determination the tracks of "The Same Dust" present unvarnished, and very alive, scenes from our lives that test our resolve AND engaging and encouraging perspectives on them. Nicole's talent and performance quality along with the CD production quality fully implement and adorn the album concept. A solid addition to an audio collection.

Definitely something to hear! Moving, fresh, and fun...

I won't get too wordy... I'll just say that I was pleasantly surprised. I love this disc (and her others, too!). Her tunes are smooth, fun, and moving. Even though I liked all the tracks, "Hurricane" struck an emotional chord... good stuff! Definitely something to hear!

An incredible debut from a gifted songwriter
author: Melody Alderman, Northwest Music Scene

In an incredible debut effort, The Same Dust reaches the lyrical and musical heights of a seasoned professional. It's difficult to believe that the woman behind these songs was only in her early twenties when they were created. With a culmination of wit, intelligence and wisdom, Nicole Janson creates a safety within the walls of each song that invokes vulnerability and comfort in the listener. Whether it's the haunting intimacy of "Hurricane" or the broken optimism of "Fling", Nicole writes with her whole heart. Each songs connects in a very real way. This is because the foundation of each song is built upon a real place where Nicole has courageously invited the listener to visit. But don't think that by listening to this record you are simply a visitor in Nicole's secret room. You are almost certain to see your own reflection in the mirror of that very same room.
