Jarflys is the, long-incubated, brainchild of James Davies, aka Jimi Haha, of the internationally successful Jimmie's Chicken Shack. Jimi's angular, tongue-in-cheek originality made him a constantly evolving fixture of the Annapolis, Baltimore, DC scene for many years. Jarflys is the latest chapter in that evolution.
Jarflys started with a few songs that didn't quite fit the Jimmie's Chicken Shack mold and the certain knowledge that there was more melodic and groovier side to Jimi's writing that moved the audience in an equally powerful but very different way.
At first the idea was to make a Jimi Haha solo album. Some of the softer songs even found a home on Jimmie's Chicken Shack's second major label release Bring Your Own Stereo. But somehow these songs didn't quite fit the band or Island Records' idea of how the band should sound. The Jimmie's Chicken Shack anthem, High was one of the very first 'hard' tracks to break through at Rock and Alternative radio and played a significant role in opening the floodgates for the harder edged music that has dominated those formats for over five years now. All through the radio successes of High and Do Right, the huge album sales of Pushing The Salmonella Envelope and Bring Your Own Stereo, not to mention the punishing tour schedule that Jimmie's maintained Jimi was writing more and more of these, "out of format" songs.
From impromptu jams with friends on the local Annapolis scene, some formative shows at the Ram's Head and regular appearances at Armadillos and Acme in Annapolis came the loose collection of the very best Naptown musicians that are now known as Jarflys.
The songs are pure Jimi. Jarflys performances are improvisational, inspired and inspiring, never standing still, always mutating, everything that radio-rock turned its back on long ago. Loose with a tightness, that only comes from great musicianship and equally great personal and musical rapport. Every performance a unique, standalone, must-see event.
The Jarflys brand new album, Anonymous, great as it is, is just a slice, a sliver of the forming and reforming reality that is Jarflys. You must see this band live!

One of my favorites of all time
author: chris mightonThis album is amazing and I think it speaks to not only lots of different people but also independent musicians all over the world. Track #2 Man in the corner especially. Every song on this album is a treasured master piece. A great cd for driving or going on a road trip to. Positive good feeling grooves even though he may be talking about something somber it comes off feeling really good. Jimi Ha Ha is the man. A lot of talented musicians in this band too, good melodies and catchy tunes. I highly recommend this cd to anyone.
I LOVE IT
author: AndreaJarflys are little bit different that JCS , more acoustic , i love it i am waiting their second cd: Titled Too in next future . GREAT WORK!
Loved the album!
author: SchragI've been a huge fan of Jimmie's for a long time, and I stumbled across the JarFlys by accident. Well, it was a great accident, because this album is awesome. I have been in a really chill and laid back music mode lately, and this fit exactly what I was looking for. Awesome job!
Fantastic CD
author: Chris WilsonI've been a long time listener of Jimmie's Chicken Shack, and I got into Jarfly's through a live set of just Jimi in the JCS section of archive.org's live music archive, where he plays several Jarflys songs also. Its a great set and well worth a listen. Their music is catchy and beautiful. The CD is just great to sit back and chill out to, and the more you listen to it the more you'll love it. Buy this CD. Its great.

This cd has given me something to care about this summer.
author: Zakthis cd has given me something to care about this summer. i have been searching for that great summer cd for the last five or six years. i think the last good one i found was jcs's b.y.o.s. This new cd is everything i wanted in a cd. it surpasses summer and goes with all of the seasons. i love it.
"anonymous" then "too" then "free"? we await the word
author: puddlesorry, this raving reveiw has been self edited! i am a fan on strike! puddle says, we want too! we want too! we want too! (the next record is over due boys, pay it up!)
Great demonstration of Jimi's song writing ability
author: John FrazierAnonymous is truly a breath of fresh air. All 10 tracks on this disc have a loose feel to them...meaning the musicians sound extremely comfortable with what they are playing. I've been so bored with music until I FINALLY purchased this cd...after listening to it once I immediately picked up my acoustic and started jamming with it.
Immediatley press replay...
author: RainDelayI put this CD in my player in 2003 and it hasn't left it since. I then bought a copy for each the of the other cd players that I own. Then, I started buying it for my friends' cd players. It has never grown old, mold or cold.
amazing!
absolutely awesome cd. can't wait for the second one to come out.

Great CD to mellow to
author: FrankBought this CD after hearing Jarflys several times at Armadillo's in downtown Annapolis...the whole album is great. "Cup of Words" is a nice tune to just groove to. Other notable tracks are "Predictable", "Check Please", and "Man in the Corner." Not to seem like I'm slighting the other tracks, as they're all great, but those, IMO are the best on there. Looking forward to their next album.
Nothing short of brilliant! ~Jarflys Unite~
author: PuddleAnonmyous is still my favorite c d. I love this c.d. It gets ten gold puddle stars, maximum awardable puddle points to Jimi and the band. Puddle trophies (AKA, beers) will be awarded at Puddle awards cerimony at Armadillos every Tuesday night. Everyone involved rocks. Along the lines of Little feat and Grateful dead Jimi and the Jarflys hold strong, I like this band alot...More than anything, they simply rock. You will shake your ass and dance in celibration, Puddle-promise!
Great CD!
author: AaronI bought this cd because I've been a fan of Jimmie's Chicken Shack for years. Jarflys pick up on some of the ligher, jazzier elements of JCS, but in a completely unique direction. I can't stop listening to this cd.
Its so good I bought the album
author: rodeworks.comUpon first listening I heard a little Leo Kottke, a little BNL and a lot of good stuff. A friend played this for me and I fell in love with the sound. So much in fact that I went home and bought two CDs the same night -- one to listen to and one to share with a friend (instead of burning that extra album for him -- these guys deserve the extra purchase!)
Endless Goodness!
author: DustinShifting in this direction has been nothing but beneficial to Haha. The CD is a diverse and wonderful album that has a song for almost any mood you could possibly be in. The recording quality is great. I love it and can't keep it out of my player. Top songs: Indifferent Ways, Coffee Shoppe, Cup of Words, Silence Is Everything.
Never ceases to be amazing
author: ChrisI'm thrilled to say that there is not even a partial bit of mediocrity on this cd. The overall feel is pretty mellow and very melodic. These guys are AMAZING, and Jimi's vocals and lyrics are phenomenal. Noteworthy songs: Check Please, Indifferent Ways, Cut Throat, Lullaby. Such a great cd!
wow what a band
author: east coast music fanI have had the pleasure of seeing the Jarflys live a few times. The CD is great, but you NEED to see them live if you can !!! Jimi's songs and singing are fantastic. Ewald is the MAN. The band is TIGHT. Highlights: Check Please, Predictable, Cut Throat. Really there is NO FILLER.
