The Jarvis Brothers Quintet is a group of blood brothers, who have been singing for 40 plus years.
They have been deeply influenced by the famous Golden Gate Quartet.
As children, the brothers learned many of the songs singing with their parents, grandparents and
aunts for Sunday afternoon entertainment. They began performing and developing their five-part
harmony on the porch of the South Carolina home.
The Jarvis Brothers have chosen Jubilee as their style of singing. This style of singing is named for the
Fisk University Jubilee Singers who toured the United States in 1871 giving concerts devoted to
spirituals and African-American songs. These songs were sung a cappella, unlike gospel music,
stylistically accompanied by musical instruments.
The Quintet's first professional concert took place at the National Black Gospel College Choir Workshop at the Omni International Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. The group was then invited to
perform in concert at the United Methodist Church General Board of Global Ministries' Regional
Mission Theology Consultation in Memphis,Tennessee.
For the next eighteen years the Jarvis Brothers Quintet presented a number of notable concerts.
Among them included performances at:The Smithsonian Institution, The Kennedy Center for the
Performing Arts,The Black Arts Festival in Atlanta, Georgia
The Kroger Center,Columbia, South Carolina; The Zora Neale
Hurston Festival of the Arts and Crafts,Eatonville,
Florida.
The Brothers have been called upon to entertain international guests of various organizations, such
as Friends of America, which include Russians, Swedish, Germans, Australians, and Egyptian guests.

The quintet was specifically selected for its history of musical excellence and culture. The Jarvis
Brothers innovative approach to the development of musical excellence is rooted in their ability
to vocally arrange and rearrange chord structure in dynamic a cappella harmony.
Their most ardent critics and advisors were their late parents who were present at most rehearsals
for more than 40 years.

This music takes me back to my days as a small child. I can remember the days of listening to this type of music on the radio with my mother. This type of music had a big influence on my brothers, cousins and I wanting to sing gospel music at a early age. Well done gentlemen, keep up the good work. Thanks for reminding this generation of the roots of gospel music.
