Album Notes

"You guys have taken the torch from Steely Dan and have run miles and miles ahead" - Steve Lukather

SCENE 29
is a melodic masterpiece with songs across the board - a mixture of Pop, R&B, AC, AOR and Jazz by the modern masters, highly acclaimed songwriters, hit makers and lifelong colleagues, JAY GRAYDON and RANDY GOODRUM, working together as the supergroup - JaR. The album is superbly crafted, loaded with original, sophisticated, catchy songs, with subtle harmonies and interesting melodic hooks, co-written and co-produced by Jay and Randy.

The musical concept is totally new, yet slightly familiar to anyone into the Steely Dan sound, as the songs build on a similar formula with complex jazz-influenced chord structures, that are pleasant to the ear with unexpected musical twists, as well as apt, fun and innovative lyrics. All songs are presented with exceptional playing and singing by these seasoned musicians and accomplished songwriters.

As usual Jay Graydon plays his guitar with elegant and intelligent accuracy and Randy Goodrum, the piano virtuoso, with many international hits over the years, adds to the magic of JaR with his inventive solos, jazzy voicings and exciting lyrical flavors. Further, the groove is mature, featuring both cats' voices in a harmonious blend - the perfect pair of exceptional musical gifts.

Check out a video on YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65f35iPO0zc - in which Jay and Randy share with us how they worked on their hit song YOUR HEARTBREAK.

RANDY GOODRUM
is an internationally renowned music industry veteran as well, a songwriter who has penned standards (YOU NEEDED ME, which was a Grammy Nominee for Song Of The Year, FOOLISH HEART), number one records (OH SHERRIE, BLUER THAN BLUE), and numerous major hits in all areas of music - pop, rock, AC, R&B, and country. He wrote WHO'S HOLDING DONNA NOW with Jay Graydon and David Foster, and IF SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN FAITHFUL for CHICAGO to name a few more hits. I can't tell you how much I love this album. Randy was kind enough to give me a copy at the NAMM show. The guitar playing of Jay Graydon is truly inspiring, in one word; "Tasty". The Virtuous keyboard playing of Randy is soothing to the soul. What really hits home with me is the vibe of the songwriting going on. The best I have heard in many, many years. Steve Lukather was totally right!
