Soothing, peaceful, spiritual meditations
author: Melusine62
This CD contains two meditations--Golden Mountain, where you approach a shimmering golden mountain in the distance and climb towards your goals, shedding your burdens, and Tree of Life, where you take root into the earth like a tree, feeling unity with and drawing sustenance from the earth. These meditations have really grown on me (no pun intended). I like guided meditations but dislike a lot of the New Age jargon, ambience, and especially the music, so I have trouble finding CDs I can listen to repeatedly. While this CD definitely has a New Age feel and vocabulary (along with some gentle environmental messages), I felt it transcended this genre due to its evocative and subtle textures. The narration includes some lovely descriptive imagery, and Jason's voice, which you can hear in the samples, is very soothing, almost sombre. The music really is like an ambient soundscape--gentle, flowing, almost melancholoy tones that blend perfectly with the voice, creating a relaxed, contemplative mood. The storylines of the meditations are quite slow-paced, which I found conducive to meditation (as well as especially appropriate in the longer--about 27 minutes, as I recall--Golden Mountain track, where traveling to the summit of one's goals would certainly be a long journey), and there is just the right amount of silent space in the verbal tracks, which gives time for contemplation and imparts a free, airy feel to the meditations. I often listen to this CD at night, trying to wind down my mind and fall asleep, so it is a compliment to note that I was not as familiar with the second track for quite a while, as I often fell asleep during the Golden Mountain track!
