Album Notes

Rock guitarist and singer/songwriter Jonathan Auerbach lays a gutsy groove with an electrifying fresh rock sound that is his alone. SIREN CALL, Jonathan’s gripping new rock CD recorded at the Grotto studio in Nashville, TN, adds a cache of 12 new outstanding originals to a song catalog that has garnered worldwide radio play and press praise and an extensive fan base in New England and Europe.

On SIREN CALL, Jonathan fires his signature guitar, vocal and lyric riffs, backed by a %&*#! killer band: electric guitarist Bob Britt, drummer and percussionist Angelo Collura, electric bassist David Santos, vocalist Pam McCann – aces who have toured and recorded with the likes of Bob Dylan, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Billy Joel, and John Fogerty.

Press play, and the blazing lead rocker, "Keepin’ It Real" engulfs the listener, making clear that SIREN CALL is a bold, edgy rock record, yet, as every tasty track reveals, one of unexpected musical turns. Tunes of grit and grace, full of space and mystique. Mood and melody moving with muscular ease. Soulful stories rendered true.

Of his award-winning writing and maverick music, Jonathan muses, “I'm a conspirator. I write songs to stoke my wanderlust and also to hijack the listener for the ride. The title, SIREN CALL, describes the new music’s force and, in the end, its strong pull on me. Fathoming the soul of these songs was navigating them to ever-deeper water, so as not to be lured onto shallows, rocks and shoals.”

SIREN CALL, released in 2007, follows Jonathan’s spirited 1st CD, LAUNCH, released in 2004 to wide acclaim and airplay, USA and overseas tours, and notably, strong CD and Apple iTunes sales. SIREN CALL tracks "Keepin' It Real," "Memory Lane," and "The Dark" are presently spinning on FM and internet radio (see website news and press).

A powerhouse performer on stage in clubs worldwide, Jonathan -- with or without the band --plays with abandon. He is currently performing and touring in support of SIREN CALL.

Jonathan uses his time and talent to get involved and to help others. His outreach work and concerts have been dedicated to causes ranging from hospices to the homeless to "music therapy" in cancer care. As a a member of the Leadership Council of the Boston-based Dana Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), Jonathan has made a major multi-year commitment to secure the future of its music therapy program:

*In year 2007, Jonathan, through his music, has helped raise money and donated to DFCI $30,000 in support of the music therapy program at the Zakim Center for Integrative Therapies at DFCI; $5,500 more has been raised and donated in the 1st quarter of 2008.

*In 2008, Jonathan conducts a series of master class workshops at DFCI for patients in the music therapy program, titled "Rock-in'-Time: a Rock Music Performance Jam.” The workshop will be interactive and entertaining as well as instructional. “Music therapy is about safety in song,” says Jonathan. “I’ll be teaching kids who already have the ability to play an instrument to enhance their playing and performance skills. Performing music well while having fun doing it empowers and builds confidence. Each child has unique health challenges, but music is a universal gift: music moves, music frees, music heals.”

A killer collection of hearfelt and soulful thunder claps
author: Butch Simpson
"Siren Call" takes "Launch" beyond the second stage of a "rock-et" destined for places no one has journeyed to. In the end, I felt every song displayed a passion for musical and lyrical purity and integrity that I have rarely heard.....a killer collection of hearfelt and soulful thunder claps of honesty and originality. "Siren Call" is not something to listen to just once because it draws you back again and again with haunting hooks, licks and color that leave you with a severe craving for more. Beyond Jonathan's and Pam Mcann's powerful presence, the band will knock your socks off....

Honest, pure and soulful! A passionate, timeless recording.
author: Rick Morrison
Having worked as a record label exec for 15 years, I've seen a lot of artists set back their careers with the release of their 2nd record, often referred to as the "Sophmore Slump". I believe this happens when many artists "overthink" the entire process when making the record. On Siren Call, Jonathan Auerbach's 2nd release, he "underthought" it in a way that proves just how prolific and honest an artist he truly is. Instead of overplaying/overproduction on Siren Call, (JA) plays, writes and sings like his life depended on "transfixing" these songs and messages into the hearts and ears of his devoted fanbase. For those who have already set sail with JA, you know where I'm coming from. For those about to come on board for the first time, climb on deck and get ready to embark on an invigorating journey about experiences to which we can all relate. High praise to the rippin' band that backs JA on Siren Call, and to the infinitely soulful Pam McCann whose ethereal & angelic voice will haunt you long after you've come ashore.

Honest rock with with a sophisticated bent.
author: Map Music Productions
The songwriting, musicianship, production, engineering and honest delivery of this album speaks for itself. Unique male vocals offer a refreshing departure from the throngs of predictable vocalists and phrasing choices out there fatiguing the ear. The songs flow into each other smoothly while maintaining a sense of adventure. The aptly entitled Siren Call definately lures the listener to some uncharted deep waters and exotic ports. Suggested Listening volume: crashing waves!
