Jaume Llombart Sextet
With a base rooted in jazz, this group offers an unconventional ensemble sound, with a lineup that includes two electric guitars, tenor sax, bass clarinet, bass and drums, giving a strong sound, compact yet malleable and sensitive.
1 – LA cromática (Bill McHenry)
This song is based on a three chord system that Ornette Coleman told Bill. The three chords give us the 12 notes of the chromatic scale, so we harmonize each note of the melody with his chord. The chords are: 1 – A.C#.E.G# 2- B.D.F.F# 3- C.Eb.Gb.Bb
2-Violeta (Bill McHenry)
This is a beautiful melody that is also built with the three chord concept. The diferent melodies creates the harmony.
3- Qué hay de nuevo? (J.Llombart)
A vamp in a rare time signature (21x8) is used to create a mood where a well known melody lies in the background.
4- Alfred´s Daydream (J.Llombart)
Alfred´s featuring, where he shapes and colours the song, an easy melody written on “darn that dream” changes.
5-Trading Joe (J.Llombart)
The melody of this song only have the rythm, and the pitch is only half written. The musician can chose the notes he want to play. The drummer interacts with the melody, in the gaps that it creates.
6-Bajada (J.Llombart)
An easy diatonic sequence, in C major and Eb major where the bass melody and the lead melody creates a very basic counterpoint that is used like a canvas.
7- LA Blues (B.McHenry)
This is a 12 bar major blues, written in the key of A, where Bill uses only one idea to create the whole melody. The melody rest on the fourth beat, creating a peculiar swing. In the last two bars of the structure we have a break that is for the drumer, during the exposition of the song, and for each soloist for his solo pickup.
8- Recromático (J.Llombart)
This is a 12 bar minor blues, written in 12x8 time signature. Each bar has 12 eigtheen notes, so we put each note of the chromatic scale without repeating. Then, we change some notes with silences, and it creates new melodies.
