Reviews of Jennie’s new CD “Naked In The Rain”:

“Sexy, Spiritual and Bluesy Songs full of metaphors and sung with grace and passion” Rob Lincoln, cdreviewsonline.com

“A delightful treat! It showcases the sexy and scintillating side of Jennie Avila to the nth degree” Gene Shay, WXPN, Philadelphia, PA

“Jennie’s vocal approach is wonderful! Few performers ever reach that level in a song. Jennie does. She becomes the song!!” Mike Considine, Cross Country Productions, Chicago, IL

“The hopeful ‘A Thousand Chances’ ends the disc on a solid note. Play this song over and over again and whatever’s ailing you will fade. You could say that about the whole disc. If you’re not feeling good after it’s done, you weren’t listening. Put it on again!” Jamie Anderson, Sing Out Magazine

Jennie Avila, one third of the folk trio Hot Soup, establishes the musical and thematic center of "Naked in the Rain" with its opening cut. Avila unabashedly appeals to the senses. She locks you in with rhythm (with percussion often played on esoteric instruments like the snake-like kokorikko), a sweet voice with emotional range that can really bite, and sensual lyrics ("I took the shirt you wore out of the laundry / And I put it on so I could smell you on me"). She's composes Tin Pan Alley-like standards ("Oblivious Moon"), blues tunes that Bonnie Raitt could and should cover ("Too Good for You," "Love Love the Chase"), pop ("Naked in the Rain"), and anthemic folk ("A Thousand Chances"). Ably assisted by some of Philadelphia's best (including members of Full Frontal Folk and Rolly Brown, a fingerpicking champion), Avila has crafted a sexy, musical, even daring record, and a songwriting tour-de-force. © David Kleiner, Minor7th.com

Sexy, Spiritual and Bluesy Songs Full of Metaphors and Sung with Grace and Passi
author: Rob Lincoln
In Dancing Naked In The Rain, her second solo recording, Jennie Avila explores her more bluesy influences and delivers some of her best folk and blues songs to date. Accompanied by some of the Philadelphia area's most accomplished musicians (ie Jay Ansill, Rolly Brown, Chip Mergott and Full Frontal Folk) she performs gentle intellectual folk songs and sensual, witty blues tunes with equal skill. Unlike her first CD, Child of My Child, which is highly recommended for its Latina influences, it's gorgeous intricate acoustic tunes, and its wonderful children's song The Spider & The Butterfly, this recording really focuses on the more bluesy side of this fascinating songwriter...(for more of this review, go to cdreviewsonline.com)
