Jay Hitt is widely known and much admired among fans of acoustic music as both a crafter of mature, melodic, thought-provoking songs and a sensitive and talented singer who eloquently communicates his observations on life, love, and the human condition.

Most composers either pour out their souls and blaze their hearts on their sleeves in frankly autobiographical prose, or else adopt the disinterested sociological perspective of a narrator. Jay's gift is the ability to combine the best of both styles. He is a thoughtful and objective observer of people and events, but the real beauty of his songs lies in the way he skillfully combines the sharp, objective eye of a worldly and experienced observer with the hopeful soul of a true romantic.

Many of Jay's songs are about choices, and often focus on the road not taken. They resonate deeply with the listener because these are choices everyone faces - to lie or tell the truth? to stay or to go? to love or to not love? - as well those moments in life when a seemingly insignificant choice can form the basis for much of the future, like the Christmas-party meeting in "Angela's Eyes", the decision not to rent a house in "Twenty Five Years Ago", the purchase of just the right book in "Bright Extraordinary Day", and of course the decision to eat the banana in "Men Carry Stuff."

But he is far from just another poet. Jay is also a skillful singer with a beautiful, well-controlled, resonant voice of broad range and precise pitch, and an accomplished acoustic guitarist. His performances are elegant, evocative and full of laughter as he draws audiences gently into his stories with confident ease and self-deprecating humor.
