Album Notes

The Jazz ConneXion centers no a core group of three: Dale Nesbitt on piano/keyboard, Bill Hockett on bass, and John Sylvester on the tenor and alto saxaphones as well as vocals (think Mel Torme). For this Mostly Vocals session, we were so pleased to add Charsette, a ballad singer with few peers, and Med Daugherty a great drummer and singer who brings keeps us mindful of the great vocal styles of Lou Rawls. Our own John Sylvester sings Lulu's Back in Town and Baltimore Oriole, two unusual cabaret/cocktail tunes with great lyrics. John's alto and tenor solos, and particlarly his sax comping are signatures of our style. Charsette sings Don't Explain and Cry Me a River, two familiar tunes extraordinarily well matched to her style. Med's Have You Met Ms. Jones and A Foggy Day are among the best you'll hear, we think.

We play jazz standards, blues and ballads fromthe great American Songbook with energy and passion. Included are the great composers from the 1930s to 1960s - the likes of Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson, Thelonius Monk, Johnny Mercer, the Gershwins, Rogers & Hart, and Hoagy Charmichael. Mostly Vocal showcases our favorite singers, lays down some instrumentals, and demonstrates how we really play. Each cut was recorded as a live performance, not multiple takes with extensive over-dubbing. This provides vibrance and spontaneity.

Home based in Palo Alto, the Jazz ConneXion plays frequently in the San Francisco Bay Area. Chekc us out on www.thejazzconneXion.com
