Clarinet Myth Breaker
author: D.J.Carleton
Don't let the short playing time fool you. Although a scant 22:17, every second is used to top advantage. There's not a note out of place in the set. This CD is sure to dispell some myths. If you thought the clarinet could not get funky, listen to the quartet's high-energy funk on "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy". If you thought the clarinet and Monk would never meet, listen to "Straight, No Chaser" on this set. The group shifts through several contemporary motives, ending with the latinesque "Blue Bossa". I have played this Cd over and over, the only thing robbing it of that fifth star rating is the brevity of it all. I am definitely looking forward to hearing more from Raymond Pitts and The Jazz Poets, and soon!

I played the CD in any player near me.

I played the CD in any player near me at the time. In my office, in the Den, outside in my truck while raking leaves, while driving, in my laptop while away from home. I think it's contagious now. The selections are upbeat and very nice. I'm enjoying my CD and will order another soon!

I just have to say that it doesn't get much better. Ray Pitts is one of the greatest jazz clarinet players I have ever heard, and you will agree when you hear this cd. I can't recomend this enough..the only thing better than hearing this band on disk, is hearing them live. A true treat for the ears!
