My name is Raymond Pitts. I'm a native of Los Angeles California, USA. I don't live in LA anymore as I have moved to complete my new jazz CDS. I now reside in the Central Valley of California in a little quiet town called Exeter.
I have been playing clarinet for about 30 years. I've been in many bands and have played many styles of music. "SWING" is my specialty. I know it best. Benny Goodman inspired me to start playing clarinet when I was 5 years old, after hearing him play on a radio broadcast. Ever since then, I've had an insatiable desire to play clarinet. And now, I have a FANTASTIC group of CDS to share with everyone. I hope you will like my music.

Who are "The Jazz Poets Quartet" ?
This CD features Anthony King on guitar, Ethan Phillips on acoustic upright bass, George Kourtis on drums and, yours truely, Raymond Pitts on clarinet.
This group is a much different group than the trio. It is a more "bebop" oriented group, but also plays different styles. Bebop, Swing, Latin, and Funk are all represented here on the NEW CD.."The Jazz Poets"
This band is hard-hitting and fired-up playing hot solos and smooth passages...connecting one to the other while continuing a graceful pathway to swing on! Give them a real good listen!! You won't be disappointed with this band!!
Thank You for your visit.

Clarinet Myth Breaker
author: D.J.Carleton
Don't let the short playing time fool you. Although a scant 22:17, every second is used to top advantage. There's not a note out of place in the set. This CD is sure to dispell some myths. If you thought the clarinet could not get funky, listen to the quartet's high-energy funk on "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy". If you thought the clarinet and Monk would never meet, listen to "Straight, No Chaser" on this set. The group shifts through several contemporary motives, ending with the latinesque "Blue Bossa". I have played this Cd over and over, the only thing robbing it of that fifth star rating is the brevity of it all. I am definitely looking forward to hearing more from Raymond Pitts and The Jazz Poets, and soon!

I played the CD in any player near me.

I played the CD in any player near me at the time. In my office, in the Den, outside in my truck while raking leaves, while driving, in my laptop while away from home. I think it's contagious now. The selections are upbeat and very nice. I'm enjoying my CD and will order another soon!

I just have to say that it doesn't get much better. Ray Pitts is one of the greatest jazz clarinet players I have ever heard, and you will agree when you hear this cd. I can't recomend this enough..the only thing better than hearing this band on disk, is hearing them live. A true treat for the ears!
