Album Notes

Born in New Bedford, Mass. , Johnny attended boarding school in the Berkshires and played harmonica in a weekend blues band in New York City's Greenwich Village in the late '60's. After 2 years at U-Mass Dartmouth, Johnny moved to Boston where he drove a taxicab, attended Berklee School of Music and Harvard University Extension School majoring in Zen Buddhism.

Johnny Barnes sang and played guitar in all of the famous nightclubs in Boston with many of rock and roll's legends, producing and releasing a dozen records. Local airplay and intense record company interest led to a hit song in England and work with legendary producer, Jimmy Miller (The Rolling Stones, Blind Faith with Eric Clapton, Traffic with Steve Winwood.) Barnes moonlighted, helping manage Boston's largest live music nightclub, The Channel, where his band opened for numerous major acts through the '80's and early 1990's. Barnes was a paralegal investigator for law firms, and an operative and operations manager for Boston area private detective agencies. Johnny worked for Massachusetts's Legal Services, the Mass. ACLU, and was a subcontract homicide investigator for the state's Committee for Public Counsel. Since 1991 Barnes has been a full time Police Officer, an FBI trained Hostage Negotiator, and a Detective.

Johnny is the author of 3 murder mysteries that take place in and around Boston's rock & roll scene, "DEAD MEN TALK", "SLEEP WHEN I'M DEAD", and "DEAD ON THE INTERNET."

Always the rebel, Johnny's steadfast refusal to release his music on major labels has made him the best kept secret in New England and an icon in Europe and Britain. At WWW.JOHNNYBARNES.COM Johnny explains that the management to secure a descent major label contract has always been lacking as word of his music continues to spread through the underground. "I'm a creator. Not a salesman."

Johnny's utilization of the best musicians in Boston has earned him acolades from members of The Cars, Aerosmith, and Boston.

This guy is the real deal. Great guitar and classic rock n roll vocals.

I remember this guy from the infamous Boston Music Scene of the 70's. He's the real deal. Great guitar and classic rock n'roll vocals. This CD is a collection of some of his best stuff. He used to get a LOT of airplay with STEEL RAIL BLUES and a few of the other cuts. They are all good songs that will stick with you and I belive, had any of his hits gotten national exposure, you'd still be hearing them on the radio today. Listen up.

wicked good rock & roll
author: lefty berk
this is the coolest cd. it is ripping rock & roll from start to finish!!! the musicians are really good old-school players who actually play instruments in this day of sampled soups and salad, (sorry, i'm hungry.) the songs are well written and arranged, and each one sounds different. i have heard of this guy for years around boston, and if a major label put this cd out he would be selling by the ton!!! i have also read a book he wrote about a serial killer in the nightclubs of boston. i got it from his website www.johnnybarnes.com wicked cool!!!!
