J C & Company
New Orleans continues its legacy as a world-class musical hotbed full of diverse styles and offerings. The New Orleans gospel music scene is no exception to that rule which is evident in J.C. & Company, one of our roster's most traditional groups.
Formed in 1994 by Jerome Clark and Kelroy Price, this family-oriented group, of eight guys from the neighborhood, has been together for eight years. Prior to forming J.C. & Company, each of these individuals have worked with various local gospel factions such as: The New Orleans Spiritualettes, The Mighty Chariots, The Randolphs, and the very well known Price Brothers. Collectively, this young group has over 20 years of great southern gospel music under their collective belts.
J.C. & Company is rooted and grounded in the traditional gospel stylings that have become a trademark for other artists from this region such as the Southern Travelers and the late, great Mahalia Jackson. Their soulful gospel style reaches back and reminds you of times past, when gospel was gospel, and you didn't have to wonder about it. When they wail the high notes, you feel it! When onstage, they perform like a fine-tuned instrument as they work their testimony into their heart-felt performances. Some of today's gospel artists walk a thin line with their music and their message, but not J.C. & Company. They leave nothing to the imagination. Their show is one hundred percent gospel all the time.
J.C & Company made their maiden journey into the European market during the latter part of 1998 where they were a big smash and have returned for several encore performances. Having become a meaningful part of the New Orleans gospel culture, J.C. & Company has performed at concerts all over the world, most notably: Nancy (France), Placamines Parish Festival, Jazzland Theme Park, Church of St. Catherine (France), a variety of festivals and clubs in Italy, and The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. They have also found themselves sharing the stage with some of the most noted names in the gospel business as The Gospel Keynotes, The Jackson Southernaires, and The Christianaires, just to name a few.
Their first CD, titled "Stand Up" was released on the Rampart Street Music Label during the summer of 1998 where they received great reviews and radio airplay. "If You Confess", their most recent project for Rampart Street Music, was just released in October 2002. It features seven original tunes and two traditional gospel standards, which are the essence of true 'Southern Baptist Culture' and will leave you dancing and clapping in the isles.
