Album Notes

True to his Detroit roots, J.C.Spires began his musical odyssey playing the blues.

One night he made a musical connection that would forever alter his path; at the age of 19, J.C Spires met legendary bluesman John Lee Hooker. On a summer's night at Ethel's Lounge in Detroit, MI Spires and Hooker jammed together for the first time. The two immediately connected, and Hooker was so impressed he invited J.C. to move to San Francisco and join his band.
Of his experience with John Lee Hooker, J.C. recounts, "We just hit the stage smoking. As soon as we started playing together, the whole gig turned around for the better.".JC.'s musical journey continued to evolve from that powerful beginning.

After years of experimentation with various styles, this intense singer/songwriter arrived at his own sound -- a sexy, classy, yet modern take on the blues and pop/rock. "I went through alot of styles before I found out this was for me," he says. "I played r&b, folk and rock before I found my place."
Indeed, his sound is now all his own. He and his band use their performance mantra of "spare, dramatic, and understated" to deliver the message of the music. With J.C.'s smokey-rich voice, the result is a soulful, evocative mix of styles on "DEEP", his debut that brings the listener through the roller-coaster ride of a love relationship.

For J.C. Spires, his connection to the music is truly a personal one. "For me, the essence is to go deeper, and find something deeper in myself and bring that out," he says. At times earthy, at times ethereal...always deep.

"There's something in this world that differentiates one person from the crowd or makes someone standout from all the rest that I call The Magic. J.C.Spires has The Magic."

Hauntingly beautiful, emotionally resonant music from this versatile singer/songwriter! At the age of 19, Detroit native J.C. Spires met blues legend, John Lee Hooker. The two "connected" immediately, and J.C. subsequently toured with Hooker for two years as his bassist. But J.C. expanded far beyond the blues after years of playing rock, punk, country and soul. "I went through a lot of styles before I found my place." Now this artist brings a soulful mix of styles to his upcoming debut -- at times earthy, at times ethereal... and always deep.
