Album Notes

The second full length from the Chicago avant hip hop/jazz crew! The group's approach is eclectic in a very natural sense, as opposed to stretching things out merely for the sake of exercise, repping the Chicago tradition of innovation in lieu of pretension. Actually a quartet, not a trio, the core group features Flav-R-Ice on bass and clarinet, Ron of Japan on trumpet and more, Stuart on vocals, percussion and more, and the Professa on drums -- spinning a jazz-learned, lightly funky sound underneath some quirky rhymes that remind us of more laidback Gift Of Gab, though with more spacious lyrics. This time out the JD3 enlist guest appearances from MCs JUICE & Capital D, Tortoise/Isotope guitarist Jeff Parker, violinist Susan Voelz and others. Tracks include "Ronin", "Orange Alert", "A Disgrace To Leopards", "New Number 2" feat Jeff Parker, "Thongs In The Ke Of Life" feat Allison Chesley & Susan Voelz, "Not Have Way" feat JUICE & Capital D, "Mr International", "Xanadu" and more.
