Album Notes

Jeffrey David (Jeffrey David’s BLUES CONNECTION)

Blues guitarist/vocalist - Ontario, Canada.

Jeffrey David, or BigJD as he is usually referred to, is well known for fronting the Canadian heavy metal group ‘Wicked Angel’ from 1984 - 1994. Wicked Angel toured and recorded extensively through the years and although BigJD was involved in many blues side projects it hasn’t been until now that he’s released any blues material commercially.

“My 2008 debut blues release, a double album, was kinda just ‘tossed’ onto the market,” states BigJD, “but I just wanted to get some stuff out there while I take my time and produce a kick-ass follow-up of totally brand new material. I’ve been asked why I didn’t wait to release half of the debut as a second CD. I didn’t want to release it a year after it was completed. To me that would be stale, so we put both the discs out as one.”

Apparently, the drum tracks on his current release were previously recorded for two studio demo projects. Those projects were never completed so the drums were used as backing for the BLUES CONNECTION’s 2008 release.

Says BigJD, “I’m looking forward to starting the new CD from scratch and laying down fresh tracks with the BLUES CONNECTION band. And not having to work with ‘previously recorded’ drum tracks.” He laughs.

BigJD likes extremely HEAVY blues and so he plays it the way he likes it. While his blues style can surely be deemed a rock crossover, influences from other heavy blues artists such as Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Gary Moore and Jimmy Page are apparent.

“I was always into the blues adlib stuff that some of the guitar greats would pull off, usually in their live shows: Iommi, Blackmore (Deep Purple/Rainbow), Page, Hendrix; never the same thing twice, just playing what they felt. I like to play what I feel and not do things ‘by the book’. Somebody once told me there are rules to follow. I didn’t believe it for a second,” he says, smiling.

Metal Meets The Blues

This album is a collection of wah-soaked blues that will leave your appetite for heavy guitar blues well satiated. Jeffrey David uses his background in metal for some tasty leads that are evident throughout this entire CD. The guitar tones also harken back to metal's early days. With great riffs reminiscent of Gary Moore, Jimmy Page and Jeff Oppen of Wicked Angel, the songs flow effortlessly always leaving you wanting more. Hight points include Ballad of Curtis Joe, Lost My Way, How Blue Can You Get? and I'll Never Be Back.
