Album Notes

About the band

Two hundred miles from anything that could be called a city, in a remote corner of Northwest Montana, the sound of an evolving music scene is beginning to blossom. Call it folk, rock, or country, the sound simply reflects the rugged and honest mountain lifestyle. Until now the only witnesses have been a handful of weathered locals and a small herd of inquisitive horses, but that is changing quickly
.
Finding one's sound is a long, arduous process, much like creating a garden from the stony mountain soil and Jeremy's quest has been no exception. His appetite for music was kindled close to a decade ago in Boulder, CO where he began his emergence as a singer/songwriter. Following his hunger for adventure, Jeremy roamed the Northwest with his guitar, eventually settling on a small homestead in Montana. There, in the time left over from the grueling task of carving a home out of the forest, Jeremy began to sniff out the local music scene, and a new phase began
.
In early spring of 2001 the members of JD Smith and The Three Legged Dog first came together. Four musicians from across the country fused their talents, stylings, and taste for adventure, musical and otherwise. Hays Daniel, a native of Georgia, grew up on Southern rock staples such as the Allman Brothers as well as the more modern and experimental WideSpread Panic. His speedy and melodic lines made good sense to bass player Matt Braverman. Matt hails from Northeastern PA, just outside of NYC. Trained in jazz, Matt brings a funky complexity to his role, energetically supporting Jeremy's authoritative vocals and Hays' visceral lead work. This leads to tightly locking textured improvisations and tasteful accompaniments. The other half of the rhythm section is drummer Jesse Haag. Besides locking up with the bass and laying down the groove, Jesse also plays with a sensitivity rarely found in drummers. This is no doubt a consequence of his considerable abilities on the bass and guitar, as well as the drums.

JD Smith and The Three Legged Dog has performed locally in Big Fork, Bozeman, Whitefish, Missoula, and Noxon. The band is currently releasing a self-titled CD, recorded in Portland, OR. The disc features many guest artists who put their considerable talents to good use in support of twelve of Jeremy's best original songs. A more expansive tour is planned for the winter and early spring, so keep an eye peeled for JD Smith and The Three Legged Dog.
