In 1997, Jonathan David Sloate began writing numerous songs that eventually became the bedrock for a new musical, The New Picasso. In 2001, Jonathan conceived the original story of The New Picasso, and after completing the libretto & score in 2002 he recorded a selection of songs from the musical with a large symphonic orchestra in Europe. Several tracks on the two original concept albums, "Act One" and "Act Two," feature those recordings of the 59-piece Prague Symphony Orchestra.

Summary Synopsis
"Tormented by his mother's suicide, Jon Bernard (Max von Essen) is driven to become the greatest painter that the world has ever known. Incapable of embracing the unconditional love and adoration from his childhood sweetheart, Jennifer Robbins (Brooke Sunny Moriber), or from his caring father, Nate (William Parry), and upbeat group of friends (Rodney Hicks, John Jeffrey Martin, Steven M. Goldsmith), Jon innocently entangles himself into the ever-scheming clutches of Vanguard City's most powerful art dealer, Jules De Medici (Robert Cuccioli), who remains deeply obsessed with the memory of Jon's mother, Nicolette Bernard (Christiane Noll). The dark passionate journey Jon embarks upon to discover the depths of true love brings him to the brink of disaster and ruin once Jules entices him with a stunning temptress, Alexandra Laurent (Ashley Amber). So befalls this epic tale of betrayal, obsession, resurrection, and the quest for love's ultimate redemption… The Soul."

REVIEWS

Great Broadway album
author: Jim Griffin
I've always been a fan of Robert Cuccioli since I saw him in Atlanta way back when he starred in Jekyll and Hyde(and Christiane Noll who is outstanding). I was looking for music with him when I found this album and listed to some sample songs. Jonathan Sloate has done a great job with writing the music and has a nice blend of slow and quick songs. The cast is phenominal and Mr. Cuccioli shows how he can command a stage with his voice. Also enjoyed Brooke Sunny Moriber and wish I could find more music by her as she has a beautiful unique voice. Would love to see this play one day(although with two small kids it will be next to impossible) as I think it would be very dramatic and enjoyable. Great job to all on a great album.

Why are there only 5 stars??
author: Christopher Kuczewski
This album (both Acts I and II) deserves at least 10 stars!!! First of all, Jonathan David Sloate is a genius! Gorgeous, stirring music combined with witty and moving lyrics. Amazing! Second, the cast is totally first-rate: Max von Essen, Bob Cuccioli, Ashley Amber, Christiane Noll, Rodney Hicks, Brooke Sunny Moriber, and the most gifted ensemble cast in years. Simply brilliant! I am at a loss for words here. You will absolutely NOT regret buying these albums...in fact, you will DEMAND to see this show staged ASAP (I know I did!)...THE NEW PICASSO is the new masterpiece of American musical theatre!
