Album Notes

In 1983 Neal Grandstaff (a.k.a. Jonny Dark) and Dan Stueber played their first gig together and found their musical connection. Since then they’ve had a joyful musical journey, playing countless gigs and musical projects together including Jonny Dark and the Wondertones. Over the years there have been many incarnations of Jonny Dark and the Wondertones, but this newest version, with horn and string arrangements by the phenomenal keyboardist/arranger Joe Millward, was the one to record.

Like Neal’s and Dan’s experience together, this CD is a musical Journey. From the opening cut, John Carpenter’s “Escape from New York”, then heading down “Route 66” from Chicago to LA, it’s love found, love lost and found again, maybe. With an organic live feel this CD is also a tribute to some of their favorite musical inspirations, from Motown to funk, jazz standards to the great Ray Charles. So sit back and enjoy the ride!

Thanks for listening!

Neal and Dan

Great renditions of classic tunes. Horn charts and orchestration work make it a great CD for listening, dancing, cruising down the road or just settling in and enjoying. This music's got a great rhythm and outstanding percussion work too.

I've been following Danny and Neal around conciously now since about the time they started in the mid 80's. I have seen many of their endevors and beared witness to their lifes folly, to this end I must say, this new genre of music they have fullfilled this time is astounding, riviting, and nothing short of professional excellence. This is an album not only for the young at heart but the young in general! It is lively and spunkey and romantic and dirty-gritty. A true embodiement of our ever so colorful night life here in the Nothwest. Alas, I digress. The only true way to experience this amazingly "Progressive" style of music is to catch them live on tour or simply pick up a copy or two for your audio files. No let downs here, just damn good music sraight outta Portland.

You truly have to catch Jonny Dark LIVE to fully appreciate the scope of this band's INCREDIBLE horn section. Great band! A must have progressive blues CD too.

This is a CD that took me on a trip I'll be going on again and again. From the funky "Don't you lie to me" to a soothing "Georgia on my mind" and the sizzling "Route 66", I found myself in a laid back groove that I just don't get enough of. Keep it coming!!
