Album Notes

The self-awareness and compassion you develop listening to this CD make it possible to eat your favorite foods with more pleasure, less guilt and lose weight once and for all. After an introduction to mindfulness and mindful eating, you get the same guided meditations participants practice in Jean Fain’s mindful eating groups.

These guided meditations embody the principles of mindfulness meditation popularized by Jon Kabat-Zinn and form the foundation of Jean Kristeller’s proven Mindfulness-Based Eating Awareness Training. Mindful eating is helping overeaters, from yo-yo dieters to binge eaters, feel their hunger, trust their taste buds and become deeply satisfied with the quality, rather than quantity of food.

Clients who’ve listened to these short meditations and practiced self-awareness and compassion during the everyday activity of eating, have, very quickly, started eating with greater control. All that’s required is setting aside any preconceived notions you might have about meditation. Listen with full attention and change naturally unfolds. Every session, you give yourself the gift of relaxation, measured in your breathing, heart rate, among other scientific indications. In the weeks and months ahead, you can expect a range of positive changes, measurable (yes, on the scale!) and immeasurable (improved mood, increased sense of self control....)

Psychotherapist Jean Fain specializes in what she likes to call "eating disturbances," the range of food-related issues that have serious physical and emotional consequences, but fall short of diagnosable eating disorders. Whether she's teaching at Harvard Medical School, seeing clients in her private practice or writing for newspapers and magazines, she is dedicated to helping people keep physically, mentally and emotionally fit.

You may have seen Jean Fain's articles in O, The Oprah Magazine, Shape, The Boston Globe, The LA Times Syndicate.... Her articles and CDs help her share some of her favorite weight-loss tools with people beyond the scope of her private practice in Concord, Massachusetts.
