Album Notes

Finally! After many years of performing, Jeanne feels she has found her true calling in singing, playing guitar, and songwriting. The title of the album, "The Journey's about to begin..." reflects both exhiliarated self-realization, and excited promise for the road ahead. Jeanne released this debut CD in August 2005, but she is not at all new to music or performing; she began singing, playing piano, and acting as a young girl in Missouri and has been acting professionally in Chicago for a number of years now. Her passion for singing/songwriting has become her focus in the last couple of years, and her time spent with her guitar now definitely outweighs her time learning lines! Meanwhile, she continues to work contractually as a school psychologist with a couple of suburban Chicago-area school districts (obviously, great fodder for song ideas!), while spending most of her free time focusing on that which she is most passionate about - songwriting and performing. After beginning writing and performing her original tunes just a couple of years before the album's release, Jeanne completed her full-length CD - 15 lyrical little stories about life, love, laughter, and loss. These songs range from quietly acoustic, to a completely orchestrated full-band. It's folk-infused singer/songwriter stylings blended with soulful-pop. The album highlights Jeanne's passionate and powerful vocal expression and phrasing, as well as her intense, percussive guitar technique, often accomplished in open tunings. Critics say: "The strong emotions explored on Jeanne T. Arrigo's CD ring true thanks to her classic folk singer vocals and deft touch with lyrics..." Terrence Flamm, Illinois Entertainer; "Arrigo is startlingly straightforward, earnest and organic in her material, which is enlivened by a beautiful singing voice...sincerity and artistry..." Music Connection Magazine. Audience members have compared Jeanne's sound and style to that of Joni Mitchell, Shawn Colvin, Jonatha Brooke, and on occasion, Ani DiFranco. Listeners have said: "Her songs are like a love letter I'd like to receive;" "She creates whole stories in which her characters live." Jeanne performs both solo acoustic showcases and gigs in and around Chicago, and gigs with other local singer/songwriters as they flesh out each others' songs with harmonies and more instrumentation. Jeanne is a natural performer, relishing every opportunity to share her intimate, organic style with listeners.

"If you love to explore the complex inner world of feeling and emotion, this is

The thing you notice the most about this CD is Jeanne Arrigo's voice. With a dynamic range and sound, it captures you and keeps you listening. Guitar is the perfect accompaniment to it, rounding out the folk feel that primarily defines this album. If you love to explore the complex inner world of feeling and emotion, this is a good bet -- Arrigo serves it up strong with her voice as the rich delivery...singing about the heavier subjects in life, and you really do feel the emotion ring out through the vehicle of her voice. She emotes extraordinarily well, especially in tracks like "In My Dreams," which was my favorite. With the strength of her vocal capacity, I would love to see even more layering in the lyrics to tease the listener a little more. The raw emotion is terrific, but it can be satisfying to work for the meaning behind it a little too. I saw flashes of that here and there in the lyrics, and it looks like she is already headed for a more complex pattern. I'd love to see the momentum continue in that direction.

beautiful voice, wonderful sound... well-adjusted love songs!
author: Sue Fink
Why is it so hard to write a love song in which things work out? I don't know too many people who can pull this off... But Jeanne Arrigo does. She is not afraid to sing/write a happy love song! That is not the only topic, of course: I appreciated the humor of "The Chiropractor Song" and the wistfulness of "Remember," to mention just a few. This is the kind of cd that plays well in the car on long trips on a sunny day. Jeanne has a great voice, and there's wonderful musicality and a positive vibe going on here!
