Jef Chandler is a native of Greenville, South Carolina and a graduate of Furman University. He has been writing songs, playing in bands since he first picked up a guitar at the age of 12. Now Jef's a big old 39 or so. In his days he's had the pleasure to open up for such acts as Billy Pilgrim, Tish Hinojosa, Fred Eaglesmith, and many others.
Though he may not be household name, Mr. Chandler has consistently written well-crafted lyrics and melodies over the years. Thus far he has taken part in the production of two fine records, one with the Greenville-based acoustic outfit called Big Brown Bowl and the other his debut solo album that he put out on his own label in 1999 entitled Talking Out the Fire. Though the songs might not have cracked the top 40, the tunes on Mr. Chandler's debut album received radio airplay throughout the US and Europe. And in the past five years, Jef has played shows throughout the southeastern US in bars, at weddings, coffeehouses, garages, festivals, whatever it took. Jef's had the privilege to play with many fine musicians at his gigs and has had the good fortune to have very talented friends help him in the studio and at live gigs.
In the fall of 2004 Jef will release his second solo album titled Everything Good is on the Highway. The album will be an eclectic mix of acoustic and electric songs, stylistically ranging from cry-in-your-beer country to funky rock. In the meantime Jef continues to play shows where he performs his original material and select covers. If you like well-written lyrics and energetic performances, please check out one of his shows. And buy his new album. You'll be glad you did.
