“If ever there was a performer in this crazy industry who was innocence and knowing all in one, a perpetual outsider and a Peter Pan, it’s Jeff Duff... one of the most innovative and unique performers in this country” - Drum Media
Jeff Duff [aka Duffo] and his new combo, the Jeff Duff Band have only been together two years and have just recently released their second album, ’Lost in the Stars’.
This new release follows the concept of the band's debut album ‘Ground Control to Frank Sinatra’ (also available on cdbaby.com under the artist name 'Duffo'). The formula is based on one hypothetical question: What would happen if, due to an unfortunate booking blunder, David Bowie & Frank Sinatra turned up at one another’s concerts by mistake and decided to perform each other’s repertoires?
This formula has been extremely successful for both albums, not to mention the band's live show of ‘Ground Control to Frank Sinatra’ which has been receiving rave reviews. The Jeff Duff Band recently sold out three shows at the Sydney Opera House Studio in Australia. The 'Ground Control' show incorporates dancers, singers, guest musicians and a giant video screen which projects images of Duffo from past his incarnations & alter egos. The show features the songs from the bands two albums.
With the new album ’Lost in the Stars’, the Jeff Duff Band have taken chances, twisting & turning classic songs into polar opposites... transforming the predictable into the unexpected with exceptional arrangements. Who else would dare fuse Sinatra’s revered ‘My Way’ with Bowie’s funky ‘Young Americans’? Or relocate the jazzy ‘Fly me to the moon’ to an Arabic soundscape, complete with sitar & tablas?
Do you crave original JDB songs? Then have a listen to the title track ‘Lost in the Stars’ written by Duff & pianist Tim Jenkins. It's a stylish ballad that showcases innovative song writing and the brilliance of the musicians.
With little effort, 'Lost in the Stars' manages to challenge the epic 'Macarthur Park' [also on this album] for sheer grandiosity.
The album features Jeff Duff on vocals with Tim Jenkins (piano and keyboards), Aaron Michael (sax), Kevin Hailey (bass) and Andy Davies (drums), plus special guests Rex Goh [guitar], Rachel Gaudry, Evelyn Duprai and Louise Perryman (backing vocals).
Jeff Duff first made his name in Australia with his extraordinary voice fronting trail blazing jazz-rock band Kush in the mid seventies. In the ‘80s he relocated to London where he released half a dozen albums and built up a strong fan base in the UK and Europe. Androgenous before his time, he moved from gothic to angstless punk, led the emerging new wave, visited tongue-in-cheek reggae, glam rock & classical pop...
Duffo has never been one to be pigeon-holed. Leading bands as diverse as The Jeff Duff Orchestra, funk outfit The Prophets, Duffo and the Alien Sex Gods, Jeff is renowned for his over-the-top theatricality, having created dozens of bizarre alter egos and recorded 19 albums including 'Snow White & the Eight Straights’, ‘Kiss My Apocalypse', 'Martian Girls are Easy', 'Alone and Paranoid' and 'Holiday in Transylvania'.
