notes
Paul Zollo of Acoustic Guitar magazine, states in his review that "Jeff Gold writes beautifully tender songs in a style he describes as 'urban folk,' rendered in a gentle voice and accompanied by his own easy-flowing, fluid acoustic guitar work." He's a native New Yorker who played for many years in New York and Los Angeles, where he has performed on bills with such artists as Suzanne Vega, The Roches, Dan Bern, and David Massengill.
For a few years he booked the talent at the legendary Gerde's Folk City in Greenwich Village, where he earned the distinction of being the guy to give Suzanne Vega her first gig. He is one of the producers of the Fast Folk CD series, and also has the honor of having his songs selected to be in the collection of the Smithsonian Institute. Jeff now lives in LA, and is the producer and host of the longest running public access music show on LA cable television, "Jeff Gold's Acoustic Café."

He Knows What He's Doing
author: frank mazzettiAnd you'll like what he's doing. Jeff's songs are always well crafted and intelligent. These songs are emotionally rich and rewarding.
Fully mature work from a direct descendant of the Washington Square tradition.
author: Robert Morgan FisherOn THE JOURNEY, Jeff Gold takes his craft to a new level. The self-reflective tone of this recording is mirrored by the cover art (Jeff's oblique image in the rear of a shiny tanker truck). Gold carefully navigates the well-trodden battlefield of contemporary folk, expertly sidestepping any cliched landmines of preciosity. His muted politics is earnest without being preachy, like the eyes of a submerged crocodile; merely hinting at the anger, refusing to rear its ugly head. Standout tracks include "Should We or Shouldn't We?" (which deserves commercial coverage) and the title song, with its delicious, faint resemblance to Ferron's "Girl on a Road." Jeff Gold remains highly relevant in these unstable times, a palatable antidote to the sloppy anti-intellectualism of the day. He reminds us that his JOURNEY is our journey.
Simple and Simply Beautiful
author: Mark HumphreysGold knows how to record folk music better than a lot of his more well-known contemporaries. Given the opportunity to produce his own material, he absolutely shines. "The Journey" is an expertly-conceived collection of some of Gold's most diverse songs, sung in a direct, no-nonsense manner in front of some of the most beautiful instrumental arrangements I've ever heard on a folk album.
