Album Notes

What are you going to hear? Always a good question!

Jeff's voice is distinctive, gutsy and "experienced". The lyrics are the results of 30 years of songwriting. The guitar styles come from many arenas, steeped in the blues, however, that's what comes through the most! Here's how it all goes!

"You'll Feel Better About Yourself" starts it off with a rockin' funky sound. It's a "head bobber" with hints of all the sounds to come on the rest of the CD. Smooth almost subdued guitars and enjoyable lyrics: "I got a black cat on my shoulder, he's got his claws up in my head.
He jumped on me from a ladder when I tried to miss a sidewalk crack instead!"

"Creature Comforts" gets a little more bluesy/jazzy with the soulful guitar lines that are this CD's trademark sound. You might hear the underlying Santana influences. Just enough of a great groove.

Next is "Whatcha Think About That", one of Jeff's most popular songs on the collection. A pure love song, great slow dancer! Simple and moving.
"Whatcha think about the way that I hold you when morning comes around?
Even with all the time we've had, I'm prayin' just five minutes more."

Then on to the true boogie-woogie-jazz styled "One Speed Woman", reminiscent of the great Louis Jordan. A plain ole toe-tapper with some fun guitar lines.

Rock and blues mix seamlessly in "Wild Child"! Here's a driving, funky song that grinds over an underlying blues pattern, one of Jeff's favorite formats.

Possibly Jeff's most requested live tunes comes up next. "Heartstrings" is a moving instrumental that seems to harness something in everyone's soul when the first note of the lead lines hit the ears. Engrossing!

Then it just plain gets funky with "Slide On Over".
"Turn your lamp down, baby, and dance under tonight's moon!"
That's this song's feel in a nutshell!

Rock and blues blend again in "Just Stand There".
"I don't need your jaws a'flappin'. Well you can Just Stand There while I go out the door!"
Gives you an idea of what kind of blues we're dealing with here. And the jazz break in the middle gives a whole new feel to the song, much like the sentiments echoed in the lyrics.

The "Same As Mine" cranks out some "near" rock, interesting progressions and rythms and one of the most satisfying lead guitar lines on the album! Hints of the Clapton influences creep in here.

And speaking of influences, "Passed All Expectations" brings out the Duane Allman that formed the foundations for Jeff's guitar work. Here's a song that literally glides along pulling you with it, right from the understated beginning!
"I can see you as the last one I wake up with, you are the heart that makes my soul"
Pretty much says it all, don't you think?

The title track "Ain't Nothing To It" is classic Jeff Guerin. Traditional blues and guitar rock meshed together in a rollicking tune with screaming leads, walking bass and defiant lyrics:
"Well, I'm gonna head on out now, you won't get in that last word...
You know There Ain't Nothing To It, all I got's to do is just do it!"

It all finishes up on a thoughtful note with "Just Another Mood". An introverted instrumental that you have to watch out for, it can actually be "over-relaxing" and a great finish to the album. With some of Jeff's best guitar work on the CD, it's here that the "soulful" guitar really makes itself evident!

Jeff says:

"The entire intent of picking up an instrument to make a sound or open your mouth to sing is to make someone feel... SOMETHING! To make a sound that makes your heart beat just a little faster or deeper is my ultimate goal and a musician's ultimate achievement!

I trust the music you find on "Ain't Nothing To It" will make you feel "something"! After all, that was the intent."

I first heard HeartStrings out on the square in Murfreesboro one night, and when I bot the CD it went into my favorites on the p.c. Just Another Mood has come in close second on this c.d. Good chillin' instrumental after a long day's work. Talented guy!
