At last, a Jewish Music CD free of Temple politics. A CD everyone can agree on. Yes every Jew HATES this CD. And why you ask ? well why not!

It has received the “Dreck of the Decade” Award by the JTDS (Jewish Tone Deaf Society) who went on to say “a bris is more enjoyable, shiva at a wake even.”

American Jew’s songs are as Jewish as any Russian or Polish Beer drinking song that is now part of the weekly Shabbat Service.

Fit for any Jew with a 1” Putz to a Bearl Banger. We know crap when we hear it or sometimes by just looking at the cover. In this case we were offended by the Easter Stamp on the Envelope it was sent in. You know who you are. This CD is as stale as Moses’ Red Sea matzo.

Some historians believe this CD was playing when Moses came down Mount Sini with the Alka-Seltzer Tablets (the second trip) They claim his recently unearthed CD player used early Egyptian batteries that were removed from the Queens vibrator. Not a Queen, The Queen ! Get off you Talmudic Tush and buy a copy today or better a set of 12 is excellent as costers for your next Purim wife swapping party. Who knew, she was wearing a mask

A Review In The Tolucan Times

After years of writing music reviews for the Tolucan, reviewer Jeff Janning released his own CD. An album of what he calls "Progressive spitural" music. The CD, is steeped in songs stylings and orchestration based the contempory music of the ages. Kansas, Electric Light Orchestra, and Yanni come to mind when listening to the lush musical arrangements. All the songs were written, arranged and produced by the artist. They pack an emotional punch you might find when listening to Michael Bolton or Andrea Bottichelli Arrangements on tracks like "Torah Is The Music Of Our Lives," pyramid and cascade into classical movements with sobbing violin solos and Flamenco guitar flourishes. Everything you ever wanted to know about the History of Hanukkah can be found on the track Judah Maccabee/You've Got To Fight For Your Right To The Lord." Janning claims his lyric to be historically accurate. This track serves up a number of sound effects including horses, lightning and marching soldiers. "God Will Find Your Smile," is reminiscent of the classic songs "Climb Every Mountain " and "I Believe "
Cover Graphics depicts a waving American flag; however, there is a twist. The stars have six points rather than the usual five. The graphic theme is carried onto the CD disk's art work. There are extensive credits given to Temple Emanu El. The Rabbi and congregation appear on several tracks. My favorite is "Your Wedding Song," the best new wedding song to come along in years. This is the only track where Janning shares lead vocals with Terri Janning.


"American Jew" is a one of a kind, uniquely different, musical experience. It crosses religious lines. It tackles the subject of spirituality in a way anyone can accept it. Mr. Janning calls it a "Mitzvah album." He claims each time you play this album something good will happen to you. While this statement may be over the edge, who among us couldn't use a little bit of luck. To put it another way "what could it hurt!"
