Album Notes

Master Saxophonist Jeff Rupert is featured in quartet and duet settings, with stellar accompaniment from Richard Drexler on Bass, John Jenkins on Drums and virtuoso pianist Kenny Drew, jr. While continuing the tenor legacies of Lester Young and Stan Getz, Rupert charts his own path, with a gorgeous tone and inspired improvisations.

His original tunes crackle with originality; they are remarkably memorable. The duets with Drew on Sam Rivers' "Beatrice,"
"Basin St. Blues," complete with Louis' intro, Gershwin's beautiful "I Loves You, Porgy," and Duke's evocative "A Single Petal to a Rose" are inventive tone poems, and models of duet performance.

Rupert and company have created a unique musical journey, evoking memories of high-humidity Southern nights and days. Enjoy the trip FROM MEMPHIS TO MOBILE.

AllAboutJazz says: "Rupert... has an inviting silk-sound that is never harsh, yet speaks so lyrically it's almost vocal."
