Album Notes

Throughout the years I've played in several different bands and projects, including Chunk and the Goonies, Jah Resination, and Metal in the Microwave, to name a few. This particular venture is completely my own creation and performance, playing bass, guitar, saxophone, a little keys and percussion, and all vocal parts.

I recorded, produced, and wrote "A Quiet Night in a Hectic Space" in a shit-hole, tiny apartment in Bloomington, Indiana on an 8 track recorder. I have had several experiences recording with bands, playing just one instrument, but the process of recording several parts alone was completly different. I experimented with recording techniques and finding ways to capture the sound and timbre I prefer using certain effects and tones. What ended up happening was that I spent 9 months trying to perfect each song to my satisfaction, and I took basic acoustic songs and placed full instrumentation over them. Most songs are low-fi in nature, with elements of psychedelic folk, twangy guitars, and with Americana esque lyrics. An exception to this would be the third track on the album, "An Artist Gone Too Soon", which has a driving, funk drum part, soul inspired horn parts, and was written after listening to a lot of Charles Wright and the Watts 103rd St Rythym Band. "An Artist Gone Too Soon" is a personal narrative about growing up in Indiana and a friend who committed suicide. Also, the song "HIFI Swingin' Cowboy watching the blast" is my interpretation of twangy country, but I think it ended up sounding more like The Residents or Captain Beefheart trying to play country. The lyrics to all the songs were written very sporadically, and in different context.
